Default Thoughts on a Toyota Tacoma

Trying decide if I want to get a truck when I get up to anchorage in nov. I'm not wanting to run my car all winter long plus it would be nice to have a truck. Any random thoughts?

I've always liked the Tacoma's. Or Toy trucks in general. I actually almost bought a Tundra before I bought my first LGT.

If you simply want a new truck then the Tacoma is nice but due for a redesign in a year or two.

However, your WRX will get around better than a Tacoma in all but the deepest snow. If it's a matter of not wanting to get the WRX beat up on the winter roads then I wouldn't buy a brand new $35k truck for that role. The current Tacoma has been around for a while, why not get a used one for half the price. Then you won't feel guilty about actually using it like a truck should be used, getting some scrapes and dents on it in the process.

not a big fan of the tacoma, i've been in enough to say the feel cheap, why do you need a truck? If you just want something cool to drive during the winter save yourself some money and get a used one.

If you want a winter beater, buy a winter beater, not a brand new $35k pickup truck. but really, why? Your WRX is going to be a great winter car, and it's not anything real special or rare that needs to be babied in a garage all winter. Drive it, it's what it was made for!

I like the tacoma. My friend has one and I drive it a lot. Plus they come in a 6mt. Toyotas are good durable cars. Do I think you need one for winter? No I think your WRX will be fine but for a truck I like them.

Personally, I prefer the Tundra my husband has an 07 and hasn't had any issues with it. Tacoma's are good trucks but that goes for all Toyota's. Your WRX will definetly do better in the snow though and you won't have to put sandbags/gravel in the bed.

In agreeance with all posts above. The Tacoma is a great truck. I being taller like a little more room and prefer the Tundra. Also you can get the Tundra with the standard 8ft bed. Just stick with the WRX for the winter. Unless you plan on getting some snowmachines or you really do need to haul stuff around you won't need a truck up here. Buy used, check ebay and ship it up. I've done that before but instead of shipping have flown down and driven back up. Cost has been less and you get the experience of the drive.

I bought a used 08 Tacoma for the same reason. The car stays in garage while the truck endures the cold (like a champ I might add). I was in anchorage for months and I finally got home and started the truck to let it run for a little while and it started right up like I had never left (more than I can say for the subie )
But yeah, if I had to do it again I would get another tacoma. I don't think I'd get a new one but that's just me. It's nice to be able to haul stuff and have that extra room, but the handling isn't comparable to the subie. It's not bad enough to make me nervous or anything like that, subarus are just so much more "able" in the snow...

Had a tacoma for a few years. Loved it, took it out off the road all the time in stock form. It was a trd model so I used and abused it. For a winter beater, I say get something cheaper, but for daily driving keep the wrx. Only reason id get another truck is if I hsd a desire to 4x4 again.

I had an 07 Tundra double cab, loved it but sold it a couple years ago. Probably going to trade my wife's 07 Legacy on a 10' or newer Crewmax in the next month or so.

We have been in desperate need of another Marty McFly truck around here.

I would prefer a Tundra. I was looking at used ones before the BRZ came in. Not bad pricing in the used market. Reasonable mileage, I think. A lot of them in ER and Wasilla/Palmer. Or, at least WERE.

Yeah, something about black Toyota extended/crew cab pickup, lifted with nubby's, brushgaurd with winch, lights, etc.. Yumm.

Although, for a truck I might look at the Titan's when I'm in the market.
