nothing but a 205/207/255/257 should go into a WRX.

wow great information, ive been toying with the idea of a jdm swap into a porsche 914, im smog exempt so i dont necessarily care about the obd2. I was also thinking about having Outfront Motorsports do the wiring for me but this thread has got me thinking i may try it myself.

Default ej20g swap

This is my first time around with a subaru so thanks in advance. I have a JDM ej20GV (it came out of an impreza). that I want to put in a 95 legacy. Problem is the engine was hooked to an auto transmission and the legacy is auto. I have a convertor plate from an 06 USDM WRX engine (which is probaly different), but don't know where to get one for the JDM engine or if I'll need any other mods. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am doing a JDM ej20h swap with JDM sti trans into a usdm forester. The guy that's doing it for me will know exactly the answer to that question as he only deals in JDM

My 95 wrx ej20g swap, engine, trans, harness and ecu, rear diff and lots of extras was $700. 95 fwd coupe rust free from florida was $600. I bought a dp, header, fmic and exhaust for it from ebay. I had most of the awd stuff sitting around, I need a few junkyard parts. Add in shipping and all the stuff I bought and I think I will have about $3500 in the car. I got rid of a lot of unneeded stuff, I think the car will be 2500 lbs or less. Once it's running I think I am going to add sti 550 cc injectors and a Rob chip. 300 whp and 2500 lbs will be fun.

I finished the wiring merge yesterday, it really wasn't a big deal. Strip down both harnesses and merge about 20 wires or so. It took me a few hours.
Would you buy a 04 WRX and do the 95 clip treatment (wiring?)

No. That makes no sense at all. Why would you put an old jdm engine in a newer wrx?

What about putting an older Japenese motor in my newer car (i.e. 94-96 EJ20g into my 99 RS). Sure, why not? JDM motors only have at most 60,000 miles - it plugs in and works just fine.

I didn't explain properly. I want to do the full front clip, but in the meantime the 04WRX is dead. Will the 96-98 JDM just plug in? No ECU problems??

I have nothing to add here.

Just to say my V4 EJ20K is running great!

The issue you are going to run into with putting an older JDM engine into a 96+ USDM car is that if your state has emissions requirements that utilize the OBDII port YOU WILL NOT PASS! The next issue is the wiring harness, you will need to merge the JDM harness into your RS harness or pay someone to merge it for you. You will need to use the JDM ECU. In your case you are better off putting a 02+ USDM engine in the car.
