I'm not positive because I haven't been in the 2012 Impreza but if you have a light in the center console pocket, I'm sure this will work with little modifications. The driver and passenger side lights will mount anywhere and the only mod would be where you tap the two wires to power them. This kit is plug and play but at worst you would have to splice in two wires into your existing console light.

I just installed my footwell light kit yesterday, and it took some tricky thinking to do without taking off the dash! But probably only took me 30 min after I stopped swearing.

Then I looked all over teh interwebz for this stupid part number for the red cubbie hole light...It's called a "Pocket Lamp" for some dumbass reason.

LoL the shipping cost me more than the part itself. Only site I could find it on... The dealership wanted it for $21 but no shipping. For $23 I figured it could come to me...

Nice Im actually thinking about doing mine today but I will be using 2 12" led strips. One for each footwell and 1 super-flux 4-chip led for the cubby hole. I already did my dome & map lights in red as well. Yes I like red lighting very much! lol.

I'd do all that too in red. Only thing is I can't find red for map and dome lights sound me. So what I did was four layers of red lens tape on investor of lens and works just the same. Less than four and it shines pink

Thanks you so much!!! I spend way to much time trying to find this stupid light..... I just ordered it through my dealer for 17 bucks. The color was "UMBER"? but the only 2 options were blue or that so i just assumed that it was red

Im sure its possible, just a matter of finding the right wires to tap into. Unless theres a good DIY, I prob wont feel confident enough to try.

I was able to install this in a non WRX/STI regular Impreza. The basic model doesn't have that center light but I just connected the wire to the glovebox light and worked since it is the same connector and light as the center one. Just had to cut and add extra wiring since it got shorter and works like a charm, almost P&P minus that small mod

So do the lights only run when the glovebox is open? Or all the time? Or only on headlights?

I was just messing with mine at lunch, and yeah, it does look like it works this.

There is a hole in the center pocket. I wonder if there is any type of wire/harness just sitting back there not connected. Or at least if there is a wire/harness available to add a light there. Does anyone know?

My recommendation is LED strips. They're way brighter than the little ones subaru includes.
If someone in the NY area is interested, I can easily wire up a set for them (got supplies for a set of footwell lights.)

Thanks for the great write-up! Just installed mine and I love them. I was even able to avoid removing any of the dash or console. Just popped the light free and patiently fed the wires through to the driver and passenger sides. Probably also helps that I have thin wrists and arms. Lol

Thanks again for the great pics and tips!

The lights will turn on when you turn on your headlights. The glovebox light also turns on when the headlights are turned on. I am pretty sure you can wire them to turn on when the doors are opened or something like that but you will have to do some mods. The installation for these is pretty much plug and play
