ekw, where are you playing online? I finally turned on my laptop a while ago to flash some firmware to some routers and my previous pokerstars account wouldn't even begin to work. I wouldn't mind having an option for "what the hell am I going to do now?" sort of nights.

I am playing on Carbon (Merge network), though I have not actually played in a while.

you should check them out as well as the Revolution network which is the old "Cake", I believe. Lock moved out of Merge, bought Cake & renamed it.
or something like that.

Gotcha, I must have missed that when skimming through. One thing I've seen in my (honestly limited) live play is players c/r or donk bet the flop when there are two of a suit out because they don't want to get sucked out on, when in reality they are just missing value. On the other hand, you have a good chance of getting called down with a 7 high flush draw so I guess it's 6 of one half dozen of the other.

c/n: Live 1/2 players are generally really, really bad.

AJ711 - you may also want to look for "America's Card Room". I had forgotten about them.
also, in any case, you should sign up through a rakeback site like "Rake the Rake".
even if you don't play enough now to get any rakeback, you might later.
and even if you never do, it costs you nothing, and makes you eligible for a freeroll tourney or two. (I finished 2nd in one of my freerolls and won $800 !!)

sic - as a live 1/2 player, I am only "pretty bad".
I always start out thinking I am going to play like I do online, but I never do.
there are so many calling stations that I just can't work up the nerve to raise 3 or 4 limpers from late position with a marginal hand, because it's likely no one will fold.
I often don't even raise multiple limpers from the blinds w/ a hand like AQs, as I am "afraid" to play a speculative hand OOP in a bloated pot.

so, I usually end up playing some kind of weak-tight style, with varying success.

last time I played 1/2, I fell into the "really, REALLY BAD, style of play". I've taken a long break since.

I am trying to figure out if it's possible to play anywhere close to the aggressive online style in a live 1/2 game.
the most bizarre situations seem to develop.
EP limps in, MP raises to $10, seemingly to isolate the limper.
BTN, BB, SB and EP all call . . .

I recently had pocket aces cracked by QUAD jacks, when the other guy raised me all-in pre-flop. I flopped a full house. If that 4th ace would've showed up, I would've won about $7K of a bad beat jackpot!

Same night, I dropped the final $20 into a quarter slot machine and hit for a grand

That sucks, at the local card room that I play, aces full of tens beat by four of a kind or better would have got you 40% of at least $20K.

40% - to best losing hand
20% - winning hand
remaining 40% - table share with other players.

I have won one $1,100 table share over the last eight years of playing there, but not the big payouts.

how often do you play there?
just trying to get an idea of how many visits/hands that 8 years represents.
something tells me the jackpot drop is -EV.

I'm going to Las Vegas next week for the PBR world finals.
I also will be playing a bit of poker.
most likely 1-2NL.

both excited & a bit nervous, even though it's the same money I play with in AC.

any casino recommendations?
must play places?
must avoid?

No way of knowing really. One guy has had a share of the jackpot five times and has been going there about as long as I have. Other people have never had any luck.

I like the Venetian (good 1-2 games and evening tourney there), Bellagio and MGM Grand's poker rooms. Mirage's is OK, but it's not very big and the action can get kind of slow if it's not busy. Same with the Hard Rock.

Venetian and Bellagio have the best drink service IMO. Venetian room also has a new, affordable Asian noodle restaurant a couple hundred feet from the entrance.

I have heard the Wynn is also good, but I have never played there, so I don't know what the limits are.

Good luck!

thanks!
I have been browsing at http://www.allvegaspoker.com/
looking at reviews and seeing what games different places spread.
it seems some places have dumped 1-2 for 1-3.
I think 1-2 is a better fit for me.
I called one of the rooms and she said they were changing over to 1-3 at the end of September.
She said people liked it better because "it was the same game, but you could have more money on the table"

I think one of us is confused at the concept of what a BB is.
after all, if I played 5-10 NL, I'd really have a lot of money on the table.
maybe 5 times as much as 1-2 NL

I remember playing 1-2-2 NL about six or so years ago at the Luxor. Yep, two BBs and you could only buy in for max $40. Lots of action, but you had to be lucky to win. And if you won, you were smart and left.

Some of the poker rooms are small, so if it's not busy, be prepared to wait a long time for a new game to start.

I recommend sticking to the bigger rooms for more variety, tourists etc.

I forgot, Planet Hollywood's poker room is pretty nice as well. I would call it mid-sized.

Yeah, I am too when I go to Vegas. HA!

I meant that you'll find that tables that are full of skilled locals. Better to find the fun tables with out of towners having a good time.
