Default Seat Belt Buckle Question

ok well when i bought my car, which is an 02 wrx sedan, the guy swapped a 06 interior into it, seats and door cards
so my seat belts dont work
i went to the dealer to order the buckles for it
and they said that they need the vin because there are different types
are there really different types of buckles for an 02-03 wrx sedan that come stock?
also, could i just buy them off someone
or do i need to get it from a dealer?

OK.

There are 2 types of buckles for the 02-03.

Buckle type 1 is one with a Switch. The switch is used to determine whether or not the driver (and passenger, if there is one) is actually using a seat belt (and adjusts the "strength" of air bag deployment in the event of a crash).

Buckle type 2 does not have the switch.

Either order the buckles with the switch (just to be on the safe side) if you don't want to give up the VIN, or give them the VIN and get the guaranteed type that was built for the car.

Why not just give the dealer the VIN and get the correct buckles?

so that brings another q, if i get the ones without a switch, is the seatbelt light going to be on all the time since it cant detect it?

I honestly couldn't tell you. I've never really encountered this issue.

The buckles, with or without the switch, MSRP at 60.00. If it's not a big rush, you can order them online for about 45.00 plus shipping. Fred Beans Subaru in PA is not all that bad, although I do local pickups, so I couldn't tell you how their shipping costs are.

Good luck.

So to be clear-
I bought a car and swapped back to oem from racing seats. Now all I need is to buy some buckles. Are 02 and 03 wrx compatible? Does it matter if from a sedan or wagon? Anyone know?
