Type of Dyno: Mustang Baseline # for a stocker at the dyno: Unknown Boost: 18.5 Fuel: 91 Octane Target AFR: Unknown SAE Corrections: None Peak HP at RPM: 241 HP Peak Torque at RPM: 235 Ft/Lbs Mods: Mods list HKS Hi-power catback Perrin Catted DP STI intercooler and Perrin hoses DW 255lph fuel pump Cobb SF intake Added items from stage 2 to VF34 cobb spec 565cc injectors VF34 Grimmspeed EBCS Figured I would post these up for anyone thinking of going from stage 2 to a VF34. The results weren't the best due to the 91 octane recreational Ie non ethanol fuel that is available in my area, but I figure this can give a little bit of an idea as to the gains. 241WHP and 235Ft/lbs of torque VF34 Protune 217WHP and 192Ft/lbs of torque TD04 Cobb stage 2 Both were on Mustang Dynos which read very low to begin with and the one at RS I have been told reads very low. In any case I added 24whp and 42ft/lbs. As the torque curve goes, it remained almost the same up until 3400rpm where the VF34 pushes up to 235ft lbs and 18.5lbs of boost tapering to 16 compared to cobb stage 2s 15.5lbs I was hitting. Pulls very smoothly now and holds boost amazingly well. Also, boost response is almost instant with the EBCS now. As the tune goes, we ran into pretty significant knock and the car pulling timing very heavily every time we pushed it hard. We also had a very stiff wastegate that was causing boost to oscillate pretty badly at first. Ron recommended if I could get any other fuel I would have made a lot more power. Very impressed with Ron's abilities and he did what he could for the bad gas he was given. Tune is pretty conservative because of this as well. Overall, not that impressed with the numbers, but they are just that, numbers. Car feels great and pulls smoothly, where is was very spiky with the Cobb vf34 tune. Thanks Ron for the great tune! E85 in the future for sure. ![]() ![]()

With only 91 octane on a mustang, it seems to be reasonable. Good decision to keep it conservative on 91.

Yea, we had to keep it pretty conservative because knock was a big issue. I think colder plugs may have helped a bit, but overall higher octane would have been better. He was a little surprised at how quickly it was pulling timing since in MN, basically all fuel has ethanol. Sadly, this is whats available here, so I wanted it tuned for it. The tune feels awesome! It is far better than the Cobb OTS VF34 tune, which honestly made me want to go back to the TD04. Now it pulls like the TD04 did, but pulls basically all the way to redline.

Good info. Thanks for posting. I've been toying with trying the same thing, but I'm just not sure it's worth the $1500 or so I would need in parts, and that's even figuring a used turbo and doing the installs myself. I would still need a fuel pump ($100), EBC ($100), Injectors ($400), Turbo ($400) and Tune ($450).
Maybe I just use that as a down payment on a 2011. ![]() |

Yea, I think there would have been another 15 or so hp on the table with better fuel, but all said and done its probably closer to 2k. Add in STI intercooler and hoses if you don't have them. My tune was $300. I mean it is probably good for about another 50whp over stage 2 with a wider powerband. I guess I just haven't seen too many back to back comparisons done between these two TD04 Vs VF34. I think its a good budget upgrade for the 2.0. Very fun to drive and a nice DD.

Not bad! I just took off my vf34 last night for a dom1.5xtr. I was running 565cc injectors and was able to run a 12.4 @111.50 in 100degree weather. So you def have a nice, fun setup going here!
