I just got a new wheel and tire set up for my 2009 wrx hatch and am having a problem with the tires rubbing on the fender lip. Just wondering what is better, shaving the fender lip or rolling the fender lip. Discuss!

shaving...done wrong, would be worse than a poor roll job
shaving would require proper priming/rust prevention get wheels and tires that fit properly and dont do either |

there is so much risk with shaving the fender, and if it isn't done properly.....will royally **** up the fender. |

^ This is the best solution but if you are set on getting the wheels to fit, take it to a professional that will use an Eastwood Fender Roller, the correct amount of heat and enough patience to do it without the fender paint cracking. It should run you around $50-60 per corner for a roll and refinish. You may also want to look into an alignment before you start rolling. A bad roll can be fixed, where once things are cut off they are gone forever.

I wouldn't attempt either. Buy of the two, go for the roll. But, expect to pay for refinish because the paint will surely crack.

Rented an Eastwood roller for 20$ and rolled the fenders today with the help o my gf "womaning" the heat gun! Managed to roll the fender lip completely flat without cracking the paint what so ever!!! I am quite pleased with the job we did and surprised at how easy it was! I recommend this to anyone it's cheap and easy to do your self!

1. Enjoy car and wait until your fenders are already rusty from age
2. Do whatever to make the wheels fit 3. Refinish/paint fenders Unless you know what you are doing or you plan to pay a premium, don't do this and plan to have your fenders come out nicely. There is absolutely no way you will not disturb the integrity of your paint by stretching and bending the surface it is adhered to, even if it looks like you haven't! Do not ever shave your fenders unless you have a very clearly thought out reason to. Shaved fenders loose their structure very easily and will be prone to bending/warping, even under normal conditions. |

If this car is your daily then just go for the roll if your just looking for inner clearance but absolutely use a heat gun thoroughly before doing so to try and eliminate cracking of your paint. Plus you'll save your self headache and $$$$
