all i know is that my 91 civic had less rattles at 90k miles than my 2010 does at 24k miles.

Also I know that i will NEVER buy another new honda as long as their build quality is what it is!!

Supposedly, according to the Honda crowd, the K24A2 out of the USDM 06-08 TSX is better that the K20 in the 8th gen Civic. But, yeah, out of the box, the K24Z7 does not appear to be as good as the K24A2. I wonder why Honda didn't simply reuse the K24A2 in the Si.

I don't think "better" is the right word. The K24A2 has the potential to make more power because it has more displacement, not because it's inherently "better" than a K20A2 (RSX) or K20Z3 (8th Civic Si). The K24Z7 lost Vtec on the exhaust cam and gained an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head (a-la R18) which prevents use of a proper header for exhaust pulse tuning. Both changes make the old K20Z3 inherently "better" as a performance engine.

Did you by chance take some interior bits out to install a stereo? I ask because that's what I'm about to do.

The stock stereo is the single most disappointing thing about the car. It's pathetic.

^^^^^^^Ive seviced in and performed new check in on just about every Honda on our lot....and if yours isnt rattling from somewhere......you are prolly the only one in the world without a complaint lol

I had 80k miles on my '07 when I got rid of it and it was rock solid.

Best built car that I've owned yet.

That's it? You may be expecting something a lot more heroic for the 2013 Emergency Refresh of the Honda Civic, but from what we can make out in these new spy photos, the changes are more detail than drastic. It looks like the taillamps, front grille and headlamps are the most drastic changes, and the front fascia and trunklid have also been given attention.

The interior is probably more important than any nips or tucks done outside. To get a good look at that, we're going to have to wait until the refreshed Civic hits dealer lots, reportedly just a couple weeks away. In any case, consumers will probably (and not without good reason) go on predictably banking on the Civic as a paragon of automotive virtue, regardless of whether auto critics love or hate the changes Honda has wrought.

Yeah, just saw the post on autoblog. It's nothing surprising. They just brought the asian-model spec sheetmeteal over here and mostly improved the interior. We were all hoping for more, but I think deep down we all knew this would be it.

You may be wondering why Honda is out testing a facelifted version of its Civic, when the car was all-new just a year ago. Well, the main reason is the drab reviews the car has received since its launch at the 2011 New York Auto Show.

With the likes of the new Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra and Mazda Mazda3 as its competition, the Civic’s mundane styling, lackluster interior and average performance falls short in most benchmarks.

This led Honda engineers to do a bit of soul searching, and now, just one year into production, they’re hard at work developing an improved version of the car, as evidenced by these latest spy shots of a prototype.

Up front looks to be a more premium design, featuring new chrome strips similar to what we’ve seen on the latest Accord and CR-V. There also appear to be some tweaks to the bumpers, while masking on the lights suggests these will be revised as well.

The interior should also be revamped, though we’ll have to wait until the car’s debut to determine what’s been changed. Hopefully there’ll be more power under the hood as well--the most potent model in the Civic lineup is the Si, whose 2.4-liter four-cylinder develops just 201 horsepower.

The improved Honda Civic is expected to debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show later this month before going on sale early next year as a 2013 model.

And not one **** was given. This will not sway anybody, the changes are so minimal. It will still sell fine, but they better do something more drastic for the Si, it's really lame.

What are you two on about? The changes that would really matter wouldn't show up in spy photos of a test mule. Honda announced last year that they would have an entirely new lineup of direct injected engines. It's possible that the 2013 Civic is getting the new engines, CVT trans and (oh god, please) a 6sp manual for the non-Si. Combine new engines and transmissions with a better dashboard and a few other interior bits and they've done a very substantial upgrade. The exterior tweaking would just be to provide some visual differentiation.

You're correct, it was supposed to be an everything refresh, it's just a shame that they did so little with the body. Judging by its current demographic and good sales, appearance is of small importance, I am guessing this mule is pretty darn close to what we'll get. Again a lame job on the sheet metal and I hope the exterior of the Si gets something better. The mule of the current Accord was very close to what hit the show rooms for the non sport models. If they do actually update the drivetrain (which would be foolish to not do), I wonder how much it will alter the msrp. Or will Honda eat the cost of the updates? A major body change would have been nice as its lines and general profile is just so bulky and mundane, but that's a big expensive request only a year in.

The new Accord is a good indicator that they're putting in the effort.
