Yeah I always notice a dip too.. You'd think the cold air on the intercooler would be some added efficiency, but that never pans out.

That said the EJ20 (especially the WRX from 01-02) was very prone to cold weather gas leaks to the point of a recall notice being issued after enough owners complained.

I would, if I was getting that much of a drop in fuel efficiency, check for yellow gas stains on the top of your block. Technically you should smell the leaks because the air intake sucks up the fumes, but people can miss really obvious stuff..

It's pretty much down to the length of the hoses and the clamps used, and from what I hear was fixed on the 04 with longer flex hoses but they still used the same crap clamps? So if you do find a leak try swapping the clamps.

It could be a $5 fix, assuming you know where your fuse box is and can find the fuel pump fuse. With no power to the pump the motor will suck the pressure out of the fuel lines pretty quick.

Wow thanks for the quick response. I will have a look this morning to see if there are any stains.

If i wanted to get any work done to my car though where is the best place in vic for my wrx?

I just really don't want to deal with the dealership.

I don't have any professional experience with Lyall St Auto but i know one of their techs well. He is a good guy (former detailer at my work and friend before he left to become a tech at Lyall st) and I believe a lot of the guys on here use Lyall St. as well
I also highly recommend Simoes Automotive, great group there

Yea go to Lyall st they have the cheapest shop rate and really know their stuff. Tell them a black Subaru wagon sent you. I know everyone there personally. Otherwise if you are willing to go off island go to Dales alignment / Motorsport These are the only 2 shops I would trust my stuff with. If I had to go to a dealer it would be 3 point in nanaimo.

It isnt the most beautiful, but I'll get some pics later. Just finished getting her from the car dealer, drove for 10min and the thing died on me! Luckily it was just out of fuel and they hadnt realised the gauge wasnt working, and even more luckily they were nice enough to drive out and fill me up!

Off for a quick drive to Sooke now so I'll snap a few photos then

Are you looking to buy the winters as well?

If so... surprisingly, i went through Suburban Motors. Yes, the ford dealer.

They will not be undersold on tires. I didn't ask them to match the price from discounttiredirect.com, but i did ask them to compete with the to-my-door price, and they did.

$850 mounted and balanced (removing my all seasons) for michelin X-Ice Xi3 out the door. Yeah, that's a very competitive price. The LAST place i thought i'd be buying tires. Glad i was in there for company car service and asked about tires.

I dealt with Rob Cavaghan. He seamed like a really nice guy, tell him Andrew with the silver Subaru & brand new michelin "x thirteens" sent you

Hmm best machines in town belong to the GM dealer, they can 'force balance' the tires?

I've had so many recommendations there has to be something to it but they are also expensive.

Speaking of which the best deal in town is the worst, DO NOT GO TO Fountain Tire 610 on Herald Street.

Their shop monkey went to my wheels with an air wrench and broke a stud. They had me waiting for hours while they charged me to replace the stud. Couple days later I noticed he'd torque'd it so bad that the stud went right through the head of the nut!

They didn't even replace the nut.

Kal Tire were also lame to deal with, poor/slow service, no appointments, and they sent the kid in the shop out to test the balance, defending the choice to send him out in the car, 'Cause otherwise how will he know what car to buy?'.

Yeah like the kid would be a good judge of a proper job? And thanks for asking me first, in case I had some security system that kicks in if the car drives off too far without being disarmed or some issue I didn't mention. ;p

Good places I've been to?
Westcoast Tire - https://plus.google.com/105694450909...ut?gl=ca&hl=en
Langford Costco (don't do outside work any more apparently)
Scotia Automotive Services Ltd 2882 Douglas Street (250) 383-3353

Scotia was apparently a fluke though because my mom went there twice and got the opposite of the fast and cheap tire work I got.. She ended up going to the ABC restaurant for a meal on her last visit and they still weren't done/had barely gotten started.

So yeah I'd go for the GM dealer unless you would rather take a trip almost all the way out to Sooke for excellent/proven good service.

At Campus Honda we also price match guarantee and we use a Road force balancer. No charge to Mount and balance with purchase of tires as well. From what I have been seeing is that we are beating most places without even making any adjustments. PM if you want, I will look into something for you.
