I guess it just depends on what kind of driver you are. For some people, a clutch pedal is a "must have" and they don't care if it slows down your Nurburgring times by a second or two. Either way, there's obviously a group of people that are going to support every aspect of this car no matter what; it happens. It's just amazing that for as much opposition to the GTR having no option for a clutch, there's equal or greater opposition from those who don't think it should be offered at all. It literally has no bearing on money, it's what you prefer to drive.

for every negative porsche owner i run into at the track i get a handful that are interested in the car and most are thuroughly impressed with what it is capable of

I'm the other side - no way would I give up my GT3RS for a GTR. But I would consider a GTR for a DD, and I would likely Switzerize it so my Peepee could be extra long!

I live in Japan, and have seen/interacted with 4 generations of skylines (R31-34) and 4 of GT-Rs (R32-35). They are great cars for what they are built for, which is to tear it up on the racetrack. In any other motorsports situation (Winding road, Gymkana, Autocross), there is better options- such as the STI or Evo. I don't like how much they weigh, or that they are so complicated. They are not as supported by the tuning community as the 34 was due to the complexity of the platform.

connected or not, you simply cannot shift faster than a dual clutch DCT tranny. The GTR is a next generation gadget and having an advance gadget connected to an old technology just makes no sense. Man vs machine in terms of reaction time and data analysis, man will always lose, simple fact. and how can you drive around a corner better when you only have one hand on the wheel while the other is shifting? love manual but there is simply no beating dual clutch. being connected is just another nostalgic way of not letting go of the old.

If people place a premium on that metric then they will always prefer a manual. IN no way would I ever say a PDK equipped Porsche, or lambo, or Ferrari would be NO FUN AT ALL. I would just prefer the slower manual equipped car, because in my world and in just about everybody elses world, lap times do not matter. |
