I guess it just depends on what kind of driver you are. For some people, a clutch pedal is a "must have" and they don't care if it slows down your Nurburgring times by a second or two. Either way, there's obviously a group of people that are going to support every aspect of this car no matter what; it happens. It's just amazing that for as much opposition to the GTR having no option for a clutch, there's equal or greater opposition from those who don't think it should be offered at all. It literally has no bearing on money, it's what you prefer to drive.

Might have something to do with it obliterating all their beloved more expensive P-cars while being a Nissan. I say that as a Porsche fan/ owner.

Hopefully you guys aren't misunderstanding my post. It wasn't really about Porsche owners, it was more of a rebuttal toward the guy who was saying that the people who have ANY negative thoughts toward the GT-R are part of a group that can't afford them. Obviously that's not the truth, and I was just citing Porsche owners who don't like the GT-R (which does not mean ALL Porsche owners) having their own reasons for not liking it but certainly being able to afford it. I was going to mention Ferrari owners, BMW M owners, etc. but I didn't think I needed to make the example that clear.

I'm the other side - no way would I give up my GT3RS for a GTR. But I would consider a GTR for a DD, and I would likely Switzerize it so my Peepee could be extra long!

Question is how the changes for '14 will affect the driving experience.

I live in Japan, and have seen/interacted with 4 generations of skylines (R31-34) and 4 of GT-Rs (R32-35). They are great cars for what they are built for, which is to tear it up on the racetrack. In any other motorsports situation (Winding road, Gymkana, Autocross), there is better options- such as the STI or Evo. I don't like how much they weigh, or that they are so complicated. They are not as supported by the tuning community as the 34 was due to the complexity of the platform.

Additionally, the reviewer brings up an important point that I tend to mention, admitted that the manual transmission is the "enthusiast's choice," but the heavy luxury sedan known as the M5 isn't exactly an enthusiast's choice for a car.

connected or not, you simply cannot shift faster than a dual clutch DCT tranny. The GTR is a next generation gadget and having an advance gadget connected to an old technology just makes no sense. Man vs machine in terms of reaction time and data analysis, man will always lose, simple fact. and how can you drive around a corner better when you only have one hand on the wheel while the other is shifting? love manual but there is simply no beating dual clutch. being connected is just another nostalgic way of not letting go of the old.

This thread appears to be an endless cycle of one group of people saying "but this is more fun" and the other group yelling back "but this is faster" with one simply never understanding the other.

1) I probably wouldn't be shifting mid-turn.

As a side note, that's also why some people dismiss arguments for paddle shifters to move with the steering wheel rather than being stationary.

That's the problem, people that haven't driven high performance automated manual gearboxes have no clue to how much fun they are. Aside from 991 PDK, GTR, and e-gear (haven't driven F1); no other automated manual I've driven is a 1/4 of the enjoyable factor of those. The GTR & e-gear don't make you feel devoid of mechanical control (even though you are); I'm sure the PDK option with big paddles would add this to the 991. Where every other DSG I've driven has made me want ram the car into a tree.

I guess the best way to explain how much better these automated manuals is: the difference between the pedal & shift feel of a Corolla manual and F430 manual (or 997.2 Turbo; LP570-4; etc).

A 600 HP car will be fun if it had tank tracks and a rubber band for a transmission.

Fun is relative and nobody can tell anybody else a manual is more fun than a DSG. But I can tell you a manual is more engaging and interactive. If people place a premium on that metric then they will always prefer a manual.

IN no way would I ever say a PDK equipped Porsche, or lambo, or Ferrari would be NO FUN AT ALL. I would just prefer the slower manual equipped car, because in my world and in just about everybody elses world, lap times do not matter.
