Ok so i have a 95 gc that i am currently swapping. the harness unfortunately was swapped for the original mechanical speedo to be in the car. Does anyone know what wires i have to splice into and where to attach the vss sensor into my cluster/harness?

It's been a while since I last dealt with a mechanical speedo Impreza, but IIRC, the mechanical speedo has the cable running right to the cluster. The cluster then creates an electrical signal to send to the ECU. IIRC the only way to get the cluster to work is to run the mechanical speedo, or swap to a electric VSS cluster.

Yeah I'm swapping to a new cluster. The harness however has no speedo wiring. What there are 3 wires on the sensor. One ground one hot and one to the cluster. What wire do I splice into to get the cluster to function

We'd need to know the year/model that the new cluster is coming from and what year/model the swap engine/ecu is from. Also, are you running a merged 95 GC harness or something else?

It's a 95 impreza merged with an 02 wrx harness and a cluster is out of an 04 sti and the vss is a three pronged plug. I appreciate the help

The green/yellow wire from the speed sensor is what sends the signal to the cluster and ECU. It needs to go to the green/black wire at pin 2 of the 10 pin connector going into the 04 STI cluster(if you're using instrument cluster wiring from the 02 WRX, the wire is in the same location but it is green/yellow).
That same wire has to be T'd off to also go to the VSS input to the ECU. The Black/Red wire at the VSS is ground and Green/Black power. |
