Did you read the power draw with a meter?

Only reason i ask is because ive played around a lot with 3/5W cree led's and they require a heat sink to deal with the heat (or they burn out in a few hours).
I have a suspicion those are closer to 1W leds with a focus lense to look like a 3W led.

Looks good either which way.

I really like the 3 led stacked inside the headlight Idea. Really works well, and it gave me a few ideas to try.

thanks man, i'll keep you posted.

i did not read the power draw with a meter. the LEDs are wired into lowbeams.

what kind of heat sink do you imagine would work? im more worried about the HID bulb heat. i worry it might melt the tape and glue.

hey thanks man., yea those were cool, and they lit up the road light crazy too. if you do it: be gentle with the LED flex strips during the install- excessive bending can rip the internal wires or the cheap power wire that comes out.

another caveat: those burned out within a month....

It could look cool to do only 3 LEDs around the projector in a sort of crooked "T" shape with the line between the upper two LEDs parallel to the line where the headlight and hood meet and the lower one just to the inside of the existing outer bottom LED so it fits into that bulge on the bottom somewhat. That might look a little more OEM since there aren't many right angles/square lines on the car while still looking very unique.

Here are a few quick pictures for reference

it took me a second to realize you tweaked the pics!!

the sky's the limit in terms of design options. the 3W LED dots are really affordable - $12 for a four-pack is pretty good. shipping takes a while. link below

@ski.wrx

i've been thinking about your configurations and your thinking is very clever. you're thinking in terms of the primary angles of the whole car -- as it passes through the headlamps. v.g.

i have a sortof aloof frowny "nighttime signature" as a result of each LED spot square tilted a bit above horizontal. im not too conerned with it. it's very viewer-perspective OTR. (on the road)

porsche-like isn't a bad jab right?

Check out theretrofitsource.com. You can get shrouds that have minor defects for almost half price I think but you could easily cut one up and give it that factory finished look with the LEDs and all. Also they sell lenses, angel eyes, LED strips, High output LED bars and projectors should you decide to go to true HID projectors later on.

Keep them how they are now minus the green. For a second I thought they were going to keep getting worse!! Lol, good choice on changing it up from all the led panels. That was awful.

haha thanks man. the green is alot stronger in photos than it looks in real life, at night.

alot of the pics are taken during the daytime and then darkened digitally. pics of headlights are really tricky when its truly dark out, ya know?

cheers
tom

hey guys,
i snapped some pics this afternoon of the quad LED points setup as a DRL.

they look pretty unique in this formation, and a guy in Lincoln Park drove up to ask if the LGT was for sale..!

opinions?

haha thanks, bud. i'm really happy with the Quad LEDs as DRLs. (even though the passenger side LED 'square' is a few degrees off)...

**** YEA! i consider it an "homage"...

subaru or fuji heavy needs a German technical design R&D center pronto. m3s are hitting 186mph from factory and our pigs barely nudge 150mph

Well, here is a post about the LED Subaru Emblem DIY

it is a very simple and cheap mod that can be added to any car. to create an LED Subaru badge:

Supplies:
- LED badge
- 3M heavy duty outdoor double stick foam tape
- box-cutter or thin razor
- electrical tape
- wire clippers

Steps:
- determine if your badges are smaller Subaru ones, or big 4" ones on 08+ models.
- google shop "LED subaru badge"
- order one for about $15 from china. use paypal.
- await arrival (2 weeks)
- when arrives, bring to your car with a box-cutter or other razor. prod the OEM badge from the grille gently. it is double-stick taped, so more cuts and jabs of the blade will help it come off

- Unstick the back of the LED badge thing

subaru DIY LED badge - indoor testing - emblem comparisons by tommyburkart, on Flickr

- stick to your grille, with wires going through the OEM holes in grille behind badge

subaru DIY LED badge - indoor testing - emblem comparisons by tommyburkart, on Flickr

- tape back side of your original emblem
- stick onto LED badge front piece
- wire power red/black wires --> splice into headlamp power wires easiest

cheers

sup - yea you are right.

they were repurposed LED interior dome lights. at $3 each, their light output is tough to beat.

alas, they were universally loathed...!

resurrecting a thread but just had to point out that the new Porsche Cayenne headlights are an almost exact replica of the last iteration of Burkart's lights. Ahead of his time and yet banned haha.
