Hi everyone, name is James and I'm new to NASIOC (new owner of a Saabaru 9-2x Aero). Cool to see a snowboard thread here.
I help out at a Seattle snowboard shop and wanted to share something we're doing every Wednesday night in November. From 6-9pm, Snowboard Connection, is hosting "This Snowboarding Life" a chance for riders to hang out, wax their boards, shoot the ****, and drink some beers... for FREE. One Ball Jay provides the wax and irons, you provide the muscle and wax your own board in our shop. Don't know how? They'll be plenty people to help. We willl have snowboard movies playing and beer flowing provided by Ninkasi Brewing. We're also taking donations for old gear for the The Service Board, a nonprofit that takes under privileged kids snowboarding. Come by and hang out this Wednesday. Hope everyone gets some pow soon. TL;DR Wax your board, drink beer, and hang out a cool shop all for FREE. 263 Yale Ave North Seattle, WA. |

^ I would be there in a heartbeat if i were still in the area. So cool this is being put on the way it is. Thanks for sharing.
An advantage I have living in eastern time is that when I get home from work everyday there is still plenty of light on the Stevens webcam . Too bad it's all just a tease though. |

So who is riding on Black Friday? Mission Ridge says they are opening, so at least there will be one spot. There's supposed to be some storms this weekend that might be enough to get Stevens and presumably Baker. I don't know what the situation is like down in OR.

Family member just bought a subaru and got 2 season's passes to Crystal. He'd rather get cash for them than use them.
Anyone interested in buying "Bronze Unlimited" passes to Crystal in November for cheaper than you could buy them for in April? The early bird prices were $599, then up to $799, now you have to pay $1500 for a pass. I told him to start looking to get $550/each. |

Good article about the Tunnel Creek avy last year. I still have a hard time reading about that day, I'll never forget the pain on everyone's face at the Foggy Goggle that afternoon. RIP Jim, Chris, & Jonny.

Thanks for the link Joe! Gonna but my 2 day tickets to Silverton Mtn this weekend
! Can't flippin wait!So.. I read the whole article. The last part where Dan wrote a letter to Chris' GF was what choked me up the most, "I dug as hard and fast as I could" <- tear shed. I had prepared to discuss the details about what went wrong and the key things the group didn't seem to do, such as dig a pit, but it's a moot point. The main factor was that powder fever, no one listened to their gut and spoke up about it. A false positive due to group skill, experience, and history. Admittedly, all the signs saying it was not a good day/spot for powder harvesting were present and ignored. I PDF'd this article to read every season as a reminder not to be powder blind, to go through the checklist of signs, and most importantly to speak up when I feel something isn't right. This is a sad stoy that will be even more tragic if can't learn from it. May we never forget the events that happened that day. My heart goes out to the families and friends that will forever be effected by this loss. Last edited by ebrake_n; 11-17-2012 at 04:11 PM. |

Looks nice and snowy up at Stevens.
If you could only buy 1 thing for snowboarding/skiing this season (bottomless pocket), what would you buy? |

A fully furnished 6 bedroom cabin just on the east side of Stevens Pass. I was originally thinking Crystal, but I could use the cabin for mountain biking at Stevens as well in the summer time. Of course, I'd have to pay for an extra season pass for the Wife (or at least the advantage card). I'd be ok with that though.
Are you financing these dreams? if you did, I'd totally let you stay there whenever you want. ![]() -joel |

This landed in my mailbox last week and the cover story is a good read. Its on the same vibe as the stevens avy article where hopefully what you take from it is to fall to the decision of caution. Living to ski more powder days is way more important than taking big risks during one of them.
Any of you guys getting out in the back country please be safe! ![]() |

Limited opening for Stevens tomorrow.
Limited opening for Crystal Wednesday. Possible limited opening for Baker on Wednesday. Despite the marginal freezing level and a bit of rain, looks like we'll be shredding before Thanksgiving! |

Went to Aspen last year for ski/snowboard trip with school and well long story short the guys face at the ski shop was quite entertaining after seeing what had become of my skis.
Heading to Granite Peak, WI this January and hoping for better luck with the weather. |

I'm relatively new to the area. Since Steven's is open, even limited, do you think it will be packed on Friday? I want to go check the place out but I don't want to fight huge crowds. Going to take lessons at somepoint this winter, and I like the package they offer (I also live in Renton so Stevens isnt too far).
