When you get a check engine light you loose cruise control. Get a CEL reader to check what P code pops up.

The cruise flashing along with the CEL means it's an emissions related DTC like an evap leak or an O2 sensor code. Cruise control is disabled while the DTC is triggered.

once you check the code you'll find it's most likely an evap leak which is a loose gas cap. Retighten the fuel cap and reset the code, see if it ever comes back

I had the same thing happen to my car. The code that came up was for an o2 sensor... Replaced them, still had the code. Turns out I needed to replace my ECM.. luckily I got a used one for pretty reasonable. Car is running great now!!

Your cat/header are almost certainly to blame. Replacing the cat is not likely to solve the problem. How many miles on the current header /cat combination?

A quick and cheap way to avoid the dreaded P0420 is to use 2 spark plug fouler's(http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0259&ppt=C0334) to move the rear O2 sensor out of the exhaust stream. Most people seem to have good results with this method(myself included) and only takes a few minutes to do. Just drill out the bottom of 1 fouler so the O2 sensor can fit inside screw them together and then insert back into your exhaust pipe.

This works on 04 and earlier systems bit in 05 the Efi system changed and doing this will not only screw up your closed loop fueling but it won't get rid of the PO420. If you do this to the Front O2, it will really mess things up.

My apologies, I was unaware of the problems this would cause on the newer vehicles.

Very true, and a po420 is nothing to really worry about. If it bothers you, you can always do like other have said and just buy a cheap OBDII scanner and reset the light when it pops up. Buying a new cat is just throwing money away.

My car only did thus after I got command start installed. Everytime I use my command start to start car it throws code.( cel, cruise flashes, traction control off.) I Assumed the idiot that installed it wired something wrong. Cause if I startit with key it's fine but as soon As I command start it. My dash lights up like a Christmas tree. Super frustrating!!! Should I take it back there er what? It literally I ly does it when it's command started.

How is this even a question in your mind?

Sell it and get a bicycle.
