Default swapping Ring and Pinion questions for 6 speed swap

So I am doing a 05 USDM 6 speed swap into a 03 WRX and planning on keeping 03 hub and axles for now.

So I need to swap the 3.90 ring and pinion from a R180 I have into a R160 replacing the 3.54 along with the flange to Drive Shaft.

This is from a R160 that I swapped out due to spider gear whine. Just in case I beat it up. Disassembly was actually pretty easy. Gear puller to get flange off, bearing stays popped right off and I whacked out the pinion gear with a rubber mallet.

So the question is if I use only the ring and pinion gear from the R180 put it in the R160 and put everything back together in the same fashion it came out the preload on the bearings will stay the same right? Or will the Backlash be off? I am not planning to change anything but the ring and pinion.

Here is the R160 disassembled.

There isn't any info on doing this anywhere. We need to get some info up.

Because the ring and pinion swap is not possible due to parts incompatibility.

There are 3.9:1 Ring and pinion gears from other R160's that you could swap in to your existing diff though.

And you have all ready done about half of the work, so that might be something else to consider...

Funny I was on your website today looking at aftermarket lsd units. The duffs spider gears are hit up. But I have one in the vehicle now though. If I could just find some ring and pinion gears for an r160.

Man I have been researching every crap hole of a junk yard in a150 mile radius. No luck.

I will be at 3 different LKQ self serves all day tomorrow. Looking. Of course they do not inventory cars or parts in the lot.

T6 is all used!

Look at older Legacy diffs, many of those were 3.90.
