Default 08+ Impreza Fog light glass removal help!

I am wanting to know the needed temperature and best tools to use to remove the glass lens off of my 2011 (08 body style) Impreza's fog lights.

The reason behind this is because I will be doing a Morimoto Matchbox retro fit into them soon because I dont just want to throw an HID kit in there and blind everyone.

P.S. Right now I am doing a quad bi-xenon retro fit into the car and can upload pics once its finished if I can get some help with this little issue.

Please and Thank you for the help!

Supposedly the same temperature to open up headlights will work. The sealer is a different material though. It's supposed to be more brittle. Good luck.

Turns out its 250 degree for 10 minutes..careful prying..and almost burning yourself and stabbing yourself with screwdrivers..but it is apart.

Downside. I shattered a lens but know of a replacement lens thanks to a thread on 3G WRX forums..

But on a side note, are the fog light housings made of a metal material or a plastic or aluminum? I cant tell.

I would assume the bowls are injection molded thermoplastic polymer and the inner is a sputtered or electroplated Al, much like the STi and WRX projector bowls are. If you look at the bowls from the headlight you'll see (PPS-(GF+MD)50) stamped on it, which is a Polyphenylene Sulfide with 50% mix of glass (fiber) and mineral reinforcement.

Fantastic.. Looks like doing a Morimoto Matchbox projector swap just became a lot harder or impossible.

Thank you for the extensive detail though, will help in seeing if I can actually have the swap done.

Sounds good. Thank you for the help. But I will say, by the looks of the fog lights on the '12 model, they are just plastic which mine are some form of Aluminum I believe.. or so said a member above.

Maybe do away with the housing and make some kind of custom housing for them, just some kind of box that can be sealed once it's all aimed. Sounds interesting actually lol

I could take my old low beam projectors, seal them up and put a clear lens on them. Think that would work? I may even be able to make them Bi-Xenon with a little work..Just wouldnt be able to put more than a 35watt HID in them otherwise it might cook them.
How would that sound?

You might have glare issues with them if they're your stock projectors, you might want to just stick with the matchbox ones if you already have them

I don't think that the blazers are to much different, they still need to be inclosed right? I still think there will be glare, and the stock ones are kind of big, my morimoto d2s projectors even looked small compared to them and there about double the size of the matchbox ones.

You still might be able to find a set of blazers floating around on ebay somewhere though.

I assume you're talking about the stock WRX projector? The clear lens will do nothing to make the projector better. Hell it will make the glare even more apparent.

You're not going to get the width you want from it as a fog light. I just did an STi retrofit and took some images for comparison between the stock halogen projector and the STi projector. Even with the shield down and with a clear lens on the WRX projector, there's still weird glare coming up the sides, I assume from the non-ideal optics and then the flat shield. The width also sucks.

After the STi retrofit, I can say I really don't need fogs, as the width of the beam is actually pretty ridiculous and more than I thought it would be.

TRS took down the Matchbox projectors from their site, but apparently they're coming out with a sealed version, from what I hear. You might want to check them out when they're available, which is supposed to be in the next few weeks/month...

EDIT: It might be a while longer for those new Matchboxes: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...box-projectors
