My '12 WRX has picked up the habit of turning the A/C on when it should be warming. Has this happened to anyone else? When I want to turn the heat on, I usually put the first two dials on Auto (fan and which vent) and then set the third dial in the upper 60s. At first it starts to warm up but minutes later, will switch to A/C.
Eventually I'll take it to a shop, but I was curious if this is a known issue. Thanks, and bbrrr! ![]()

The A/C compressor cycles when you have have the defrost on, standard on just about every car in the world.

Seriously?! Crazy. I've never noticed the A/C light come on in any of my vehicles, when the heat is on.
Thanks for saving me the embarrassment of taking it in somewhere! Lol. |

This happens in. My jeep when I do auto climate control. It has a sensor inside and that's how it reads inside temp so if its to "warm" it turns a.c on. If you have the nob on window icon then.yes a.c will turn on. Try running heat in manual mode not auto. Or dealer can further more explain if ya stop In.

The AC acts as a dehumidifier when it's cold out. That's why it gets turned on. You want to hit your fogged up windows with warm, DRY, air to defrost-defog them.
That's why you can see your breath when you breathe on a cold window: water molecules in your breath. With no AC, your defroster would do the same thing, and you wouldn't be able to see. Well ok, after a while, it heats up the glass in the window, and you can see, but it takes a lot longer. <-hasn't had AC in years. |

I asked my dealer when I got my 11 and he said leave it always set to auto for the first 2, set the temp what ever you like and it will never fog up like the older ones. And he's right, never had it fog up while driving ever.

its nice having the AC on on those cold humid days because you'll get nice dry warm air instead of it feeling sticky.
