I've had a 70ish year old lady smile excitedly and give me a thumbs up after she saw my cf hood

The first time I stopped to fill up the tank on my new WRX I had somebody approach me, the conversation went like this:

Them: Hey man, is that good on gas?
Me: Not really, it averages around 20-21mpg...
Them: Oh really? It looks like it would be good on gas... what is it, a v6?
Me: Nope, turbo 4
Them: Well it looks good!
Me: Thanks

I had a guy tell me nice car then attempted to one up me. He said he and his dad built a Buick Grand National and that he had 14 pounders in there. He asked how many pounds my turbo was. I asked " You mean how much boost?". He said sure. I said 20 lbs. He looked at me in amazement. Long story short he didn't know poop and I didn't even bother explaining to him there there are different sized turbos. I am amazed that some peoples cars even run with the lack of knowledge out there.

Haven't really had any experiences at gas stations for 2 reasons:
I live in NJ
I drive an 06 2.5i so it's not really anything special :/ although I have had gas attendants compliment it on how "clean" it is.

Lol'd hard at some of these stories though hahaha

Pulled out of a parking garage in a ritzy town today (Birmingham, MI), the structure attendant said "that's a fancy car you got there, do you do all of the work yourself?" Kinda cool when you get recognition for your work when there was an Audi R8 & a Continental GT, & a flying spur sitting within walking distance of 3 blocks, and gives me props on my "average econo car".

And you're like "Yes, yes I do. The same cannot be said for almost all of the other owners who keep their cars here." With an ironically arrogant attitude.

I expected to get rev'd on by imports 24/7 when I bought my mustang. I really wasn't looking forward to getting beat on by my buddies that have fast subies. (mine is faster than the average modded subie, but there are a lot around here that are modded well beyond the average mods) But it just doesn't happen.

Not once. In over a year. Not a single import has screwed with me. Had a couple mustangs want to play, and I may or may not have had to manhandle a hemi challenger (allegedly, because I would never race on a public road ), but no imports.

Subie audio isnt good enough to be called bad.

Seriously, $50 and a trip to Walmart can make dramatic improvements. That's just sad in this day and age.

The only people that have actually approached me about my car are older people that drive Outbacks or Foresters. Usually it's a very pleasant conversation about how much we love our Subarus. Of course I do get the tards that rev their engines at me and try to race.

Dave, that's because Mustangs are so common. I went by the Ford dealer across from Wendy's where I got lunch today. I asked about a Boss 302 Laguna Seca and they said that they no longer sell single serving Mustangs. You have to buy them by the dozen.

First time I went to fill up my WRX with gas, a lady at the next pump over filling up her generic crossover asked me "What kind of car is that? It looks good!". I said "Its a WRX". She looked puzzled, so I said "Subaru". She looked disappointed when she found out it was a Subaru.

I rolled through the bank drive thru today, after my transaction the teller said "Man that's a nice car, I have a 2002." I replied "Nothing wrong with a clean bug-eye" and he gave me a nod.

No gas station approaches yet though...but then again I've only filled up once since I got it.

Usually while driving my dads STi in Florida I get comments like "driving daddy's car huh?" I kindly reply, "Yep! What? Your parents can't afford nice things?" Then they get unamused and stop bugging me.

Don't worry it will happen soon enough, I still get it a couple times a month.

I saw this thread and had to laugh because, being a new WRX owner, I thought I was the only one. My gas station experience:

me: *walking over to fill up*
guy in caravan/Winnebago filling up on other side: Hey! Nice car!
me: *beaming* Thanks!
guy: What is it? A Toyota?
me: No. Its a WRX.
guy: *blank stare"
me:... a Subaru.
guy: Oh! Nice! *chats some more*
me: *starts car*
guy: Whoa! Thats NOT a Toyota is it?
me:

I can only assume that because I'm a chick, he thought it was a matrix. Shame on him.

I don't get approached by random people talking about my car, but i get a lot of my friends/ people i know saying:

"is it standard"
"do a burnout man"
"the air shifter sounds sick!"

I have also heard a guy i know say that his buddies limited wrx (stock, i know the guy) would kill his other buddies base wrx (stock as well, i also know him).

Unless maybe i am missing something here, a sunroof, fog lights, HIDs, etc, do not make a car faster. Some people should just not say anything and it will save them from looking like an idiot.

One time I was filling up and a guy told me that he really liked the color of my WRX and asked if it was a custom paint job. I said no this is just the red that came from the factory. He said, "Oh, well I always thought that the WRX's came in blue because that is all I have ever seen them in, I really like this red though, it is really nice"
