im not sure if this is the right place BUT:
hey guys i have been leaking oil quite a bit.. took it to the subi dealership today and they said that my right side valve cover gasket is leaking pretty bad. how hard is it to replace it? also im guessing that i can buy this stuff aftermarket and not get raped at subi. anyone got any input on this?

This is the wrong engine management forum. Lol love the pun. Google "valve gasket replacement how to DIY Nasioc " and you will get some hits. There are a couple videos of how to do it I assume it is not hard but not a walk in the park. Btw alot of people have leaky passender valve covers oh well. They still live unless ur leaking alot

EJ20 forum has at least a couple threads on this. Passenger valve cover gasket is the first to go due to it's proximity to the uppipe and turbo. Lots of "shade-tree mechanic" type people have done it themselves. The only issue is that the little bolts will snap if you torque them. The torque rating is 3.6 ft / lbs (next to nothing).
You need the main gasket, the 2 spark plug gaskets, and I think it's 8 little gaskets for the little screws, plus some threebond / fujibond / permatex for the cam seal half-moons. Check the EJ20 forum for part numbers, or get the kit from Rock Auto (kit doesn't include the RTV gasket maker stuff). |
