Default Will 5mt Axle Stubs work in a 6mt?

I have searched for the answer to this, but I have not found a post or thread dealing directly with my question/issue.

I have a 2002 WRX with a 5mt. The front axle ends are female, mating to the trans with male axle stubs.

I just grenaded 3rd gear and am going to swap in a 6mt.

The 6mt I am looking to get is an 05 with male axle ends and the trans is female.

I know I can get 38415AA110 (04 STi axle stubs) to essentially convert the trans to an 04 and allow me to use my female axles, but since I already have a 5mt with axle stubs can I just remove those stubs and use them in the 6mt?

The only issue I can see is that I would need to install the stubs while the trans is open since they use a snap ring (that must be accessed from inside the diff) as opposed to just sliding in with a circlip. I will be replacing the synchros and adding Spec B gears. So the inside of the diff will be accessible to install the snap rings for the 5mt axle stubs.

This should work, but am I missing something?

Whose to say one way is right compared to the other?

The only reason people opt to go with the 04 STi stubs is because they can just push them in without needing to take apart the transmission or rob them from their stock transmission (which requires taking it apart as well).

I have a broken 5 speed with stubs and I will be taking my 6 speed apart. I see no reason not to use my stubs if they will work.

Your response did nothing but add 1 to your post count.

I checked this out with part numbers with the dealer. Came out to be the same part number.

I'll have to check if it was the auto or was it the 5spd WRX.

Thanks, let me know what you come up with.

If they are the same, it's possible I could just get circlips to replace the snap rings and be able to just slide them in and out at my leisure.

According to this http://opposedforces.com/parts/impre...llustration_1/

The 5mt stubs are 38415AA100, as opposed to 110. Maybe this has something to do with the groove for the circlip?

The 4eat stubs seem to be the same though and this lists them as 38415AA110.

the 5mt stubs and 6mt stubs are different. Yo won't be able to secure the 5mt stub in 6mt. The groove and length of the studs are different.

You need to order 38415AA110

Yes, in short you cant use snap ring stubs in place of circlip stubs and no you can not put the circlips into the snap ring stubs.
