I did this myself a few weeks back; got it from the same vendor (great service), the only difference is I used red thread. Very happy with the look & feel of the cover.

I didn't fold it over myself, but the Wheelskins comes with the edge of the leather folded and glued for durability. You pull hard on the thread while stitching, so the fold allows you to pull very hard without worrying about tearing or stretching the leather.

There's also a string glued in the seam that helps support the pressure.

Agreed. But not having the grooves molded into the plastic steering wheel digging into my palms is just priceless. And I like a thick steering wheel. I'm guessing the plastic wheel with the Wheelskins wrap is thicker than the Subaru leather wheel.

So I acknowledge that the Wheelskins doesn't provide a factory look. But it does provide a nice wheel to hold during a road trip.

The red really pops out at you. I like it.

You're welcome. I suggest the baseball stitch. Just take your time and it will come out nicely. Do this project at a time when you don't have a deadline or any other commitments coming up. It took me nearly 4 hours, but it was worth it.

My Wheelskins cover is 11 months old now, and I still love it. It has shown no wear, and is still perfect.

Thanks it nice to know its durability matches its feel and quality. After my missus complained about the standard wheel surface being slippery in Summer I finally installed my Black Wheelskins about 3 weeks ago and am loving the difference regretting not ordering one earlier.

2 hints, don't rush it even when you get into a fast mechanical rhythm and have a break from time to time to re-focus and regret not ordering from Dan as you suggested as payed more from Wheelskins online, wasn't thinking straight as I ordered it.

Go to my original post in this thread and you'll see where I ordered my Wheelskins kit from.

I'd like to try this (not the padding, but the wrap), but I don't know if I have the stones or patience to install it...

REDLINE STEERING WHEEL WRAP

Interesting. Expensive, but interesting.

It's not the expense that scares me, it's the installation...

I had Redline Goods shift and e-brake boots, as well as an armrest cover on my Baja and their quality is outstanding. Their leather is like budda.

I didn't read the installation process, but judging from the pics, I assume you need to remove the plastic trim from the steering wheel (which might require removing the steering wheel from the car altogether?). I don't know how hard any of that would be.

Yes removal of the wheel is required, which in itself is not a big deal. I've done it before when I replaced the steering wheel in my old 2.5RS. The bigger deal is the gluing and stitching. Check out the write up here and you will see what I mean. REDLINE INSTALL

I see serious f-up potential if you are not skilled and very careful. Looks extremely tedious...
