Default Dec 8 @ CMP: Subaru Owners AutoX/PDX

Hey all! Folger Subaru has decided to host another event for the Subaru community at Carolina Motorsports Park December 8th! It will be run like the Subaru Challenge a few years ago where the East Course will be an autocross (the one that’s visible from the paddock/kart track) and there will be a pdx/pde on the West Course (the bigger one obscured by trees). This event is run through Folger Subaru not Subaru of America this time around and we hope to have a good turnout so we can keep hosting these in future. After the last event CMP bought all new timing equipment so hopefully it will alleviate any issues that occurred during the summer event (also running a track day on the West Course should help, cone chasing on the back of that is rough).

This should prove to be an excellent day of racing for any experience level, and if you’ve been looking to get into autocross this would serve as the perfect inaugural event, especially since there won’t be any die hards there fighting for season points.

Hope everyone can make it, we will have the kart track open and have plenty of room for spectators. Ride alongs will also be permitted with autocross drivers (so long as you are not a novice) and there will be plenty of opportunities for spectators to get a ride along to see what it’s like out on track.
Pricing and the registration site are still getting ironed out, and I will post up once I get that information. If you have any questions feel free to email me at jsotomayor55@gmail.com and I will do my best to assist you. Registration will be open to all makes and models, though we will be charging less for you Subaru owners .

Mark the date and I'll keep you posted,

Josh

You have a Subaru and last I heard it was still running

My Subaru is still on jack stands, but at least now parts are going into it rather than coming out

Sounds rough having to resort to driving a lotus

What's wrong with yours now?

Actually, I have trouble asking for rides when I have a semi prepped miata. Now, offered rides I'm always listening for

Alright, here's what I have on the PDX. CMP is calling it a Time Trial, so I'm not sure if you must have prior experience in general or at CMP specifically.

MotorsportReg Link: http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c...F#.UKuLWGfAkdQ

And here's the e-mail I received last night from Sylva:

Quote:
Cost is $125. T/T

No additional safety items other then helmet and completed tech form ... just like our solo and use the Turn 1 tech form. If it is a convertible it needs to have a roll bar.

Sessions will depend on the number of enteries but will probably be four 15 minute sessions.

Also, info and signup is on motorsportsreg.com

Sylvia Patterson
It's open to all makes/models, and they'll have 3 classes, Stock, Prepared, and Modified. I don't have any info on what bumps you into which class, but if it follows anything similar to SCCA AX, then Prepared will be stock turbo with other mods, and Modified will be built motor, bigger turbo/injectors, etc. I've been signed off for solo driving by CMP's own group that runs events there, Turn 1 Motorsports, so I'm good on experience.

I've asked for clarification on experience, helmet requirement (M or SA), rules for each TT class, and transponder rental.

Here's the latest responses:

Quote:
1. How much is transponder rental, and how/where should I mount it...? Transponders rent for $15/day with a requirement of a credit card number that can be run if the transponder is not returned. As to mounting, there should be a clear shot to the ground.

2. What are the rules for modifications for each TT class? Does it loosely follow SCCA autocross classing? Yes

3. Since this is a Time Trial, previous track experience is a
requirement...? I have a few friends that may come with me if they can get an instructor (no previous track experience). Yes, there will be a novice class with an additional $10 for the instructor

4. Will a Snell M-rated helmet be allowed, or must it be Snell SA-rated? If SA is a requirement, how much is helmet rental? 2005 MA helmets can be used. We have some for rent for $10/day with a $100 security fee (can be credit card number that it not run unless not returned on a good check for $100 that can be returned at the end of the day.
Hope this has helped
.

Moar:

Passing will be point by on the straights. Zip tie to the frame rail would be the best option [for mounting the transponder].
I have a hard time placing "time trial" and "pass with point-by" in the same sentence, but whatever.

that being said Folger is working with the Make-A-Wish foundation from now until January to donate money to their cause.

Folgers says:

1. For every new Subaru vehicle that is sold at our Charlotte Subaru dealership now through Jan. 2, 2013, we will donate $100 to Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina!

2. Like us on Facebook! We will donate $1 to them for each new page like during this time period!

3. Donate toys as part of our "Pack the Outback" toy drive! Stop by our Subaru dealership showroom and place your toy donations in our specially designated drop-off area.

4. We are selling Make-A-Wish® Christmas tree ornaments! They are $10 each, and all proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina.

5. We will also be collecting monetary donations and gift cards with all proceeds going to Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina.

and they are hoping to use this event to generate awareness for their cause (much like the local SCCA region uses a December charity event for the toys for tots). so if you haven't go on and like their page!

Finally, we will be having ridealongs at the event in an H6 swapped autocross car for anyone who would like to go out and see the track (competitor or spectator) so feel free to bring a bunch of people to spectate/tell whoever may be interested as they will not only have the opportunity to use the rental kart facility but can also see some autocross action in a pretty quick Subaru. The ridealongs will be run like they have in the past with the 2012 STis and the BRZ that was there at the summer event except that there will be no raffle for the ridealongs and they will be offered first come first serve (and of course will not be available to small children).

To keep doing events like this we need to get registration numbers up so go ahead and get registered! (no need to prepay)

Hope to see everyone out!

For all those interested in the full track portion of the event. The decision has been made to run it in three groups: PDX, time trial and solo. Those who want to rent a transponder or have their own and have their times recorded may do so in the time trial portion, but for those who just want to spend some time blasting around the course you may do so without any additional equipment or recorded times in the pdx group. Registration has been updated. sorry for the constant changes, working out all the kinks.

Also Folger will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Make-A-Wish foundation so get registered! (no prepay necessary)

Great news about the road course/PDX format. I'm signed up for the Time Trial and will be instructing as well.
