Default Lets talk seats.

So whats the opinion on using a replica seat vs a legit one?
I'm sure comfort vise it varies on the manufacturer but besides that
is there any downside to replica seats?

I don't think id be ok with knowing my a$$ sits on a fake seat everyday,
letting people believe its legit. haha

Even though fake/replica seats sometimes seem half assed and ugly, my co worker just purchased a Bride replica and it looked like a legit one, down to the
engraving.

the problem tends to lie with the structural integrity of the seats. i.e. bending, flexing, breaking, under loads where they shouldn't

Really depends who made the fake. Grey market seats are much better than the ones assembled in a cheaper sweat shop

Bride has a lot of grey market seats. Recaro and Sparco don't. Bride also has zero safety testing so it doesn't really matter if they're real or not. Most 'budget friendly' aftermarket seats have zero safety ratings because they aren't really tested.

I'm ok with sitting my rump in a knock-off seat with the 2 grand I saved in my pocket. Few things feels nicer to sit on than CASH.

Don't cheap out on safety. Buy a real and certified seat.

I love my REAL recaro spg xl. I have it in the car in the summer and put my jdm v8's back in for the winter. Its worth spending the money on something like seats.

So are the replica grey market seats safer than stock seats, yet less safer than real seats?

This is what you're going to hear over and over. For good reason.

with real seats there are certifications and testing done. knock-offs dont. lets get down to the reason you want a seat. is it to look cool? racing? what is a budget that you are willing to spend? how about comfort? i have a recaro one piece that i have as a daily but i would do a trip over say, 5 hours.

I really wasnt looking to upgrade my seats because of the fact they can cost so much, and its not a necessity but today my co-worker showed me his replica, and i got to sit in it and drive his wrx wagon around and it felt nice. Made me think about getting one.

I don't do autox or drifting just some canyon runs here and there.

Some of the replica Bride stuff out there will literally break during normal driving and such. There's a few threads about this subject with some great posts about the quality of replicas. It's just not worth it to skimp on seats.

replica seats are nowhere NEAR the safety level of stock seats.

they are pieces of ****, and you should NOT even consider buying them.

ESPECIALLY since there are plenty of AFFORDABLE certified seats.

I had a set of cheap Chinese ebay seats in my RX7, they looked nice enough but were absolute junk. They creaked and sqeaked and parts were always falling off.

Never again.
