Yes, but what do you really think of the Borla?

Hey guys, thanks for all the comments. I am most likely going to pick up an access port and figure out how to tune it myself. Would you guys recommend this or taking it to a shop? My friend gets all his work done at Akuma Motorsports and his car is pretty sick. I contacted them regarding the tune but if it's cheaper and more efficient to do it myself I'd rather just go that route. Wouldn't I would also be able to reflash it to factory settings to avoid any warranty issues? Thank you!

You can do the Accessport tune yourself takes like 1 minute... Endless debate on if you can flash to stock and they can tell. Personally I think it's a non issue as the 'safer' tune results in engine failure being unlikely.

Enjoy!!

I agree with Napalm, up to a point. Stage 1 is a solid, safe tune. When one gets up into stage 2, things get a little sketchy. It appears stage 2 is pushing the stock components close to their limit. My buddy blew his engine (ringland, piston 4) on nothing more than a catless downpipe and AP stage 2 tune. He was fortunate and was able to have his engine replaced as a good will gesture. He's been protuned on the new engine with the same downpipe and a Cobb shorty intake for several thousand miles and has not had an issue.

Some are more fortunate than others and stage 2 loves them long time. I personally will go the protune route once I'm ready for stage 2-ish power.

I think when you go to 'stage 2' you need to get a protune.

I've had a protuned stage 2 STi with 105,000 on the clock now, and got it protuned Stage 2+ (I added an aggressive CAI) for around 50,000 miles without an issue. Car runs like new.

I put Stage 1 on it right after breakin and haven't looked back since. Subaru honored my warranty for full 100k due to the modifications I had not causing any issues.

FWIW, I did the same after break in with my '12, and am really happy with AP stage 1 for now. The Cobb OTS s1 map worked well, and is a nice improvement over stock, really made things smooth across the whole band in comparison. Thinking I'll stay at s1 for a bit, but did go short shifter & bushings, plus a great shift knob from WC lathe Werks LLC I learned about here. Will be looking into improving suspension next, then later going s2. Nice to have something to look forward to

Good thing to do when you do use AP is to use it to grab some data logs after changing the map to be sure things are working as expected. Cobb's site has some good info on what values to expect/look for with their maps and also look like they're real good about giving feedback on any questions too.

Real happy with my WRX/first Subie, fun and addictive

Enjoy!

Pretty fun road. Basically just a straight dirt road in the pine barrens. Will be going back there more in the summer!
