Default Sti is wounded!

Just gonna vent,

I was on my way to work last night cruising around 75 feeling good in my freshly washed waxed and completely detailed 04 STi which has been babied since sept 2003. Cresting a hill on the highway and bam a efing truck tire! No time to move it goes up under the car followed by lots of noise and loud as hell exhaust. Pull over first thing I notice is the plastic tray under the engine is shredded hanging on by one last bolt on the back, the paint is spider webbed on the lower part of the bumper but at least its not leaking oil or coolant so that's good news. I check it out further to see if I can still drive it the rest of the way to work and deem it drivable. The whole way there I'm imagining where the exhaust it leaking from, I get to work jack it up and the back of the cat is broken completely off before the joint to the intermediate pipe. Bummer! It sounded mean as hell though, lol.

It could have been a lot worse but still sucks. Time for a turbo back exhaust maybe.

Sorry to hear about your car. That is why recaps should be done away with.

what do you mean? I can't fix this one?

I'll be looking into that after I fix the exhaust, any suggestions on a skidplate?

Can't give you any user feedback myself, as I'm trying to get one as well, but the primitive plates seem to be the best bang for your buck right now. I think having a metal skid plate could have reduced the amount of damage greatly as well

see a truck tire carcass on the highway? see the steel belts hanging out?
NOT a cap failure....that's the actual body of the tire casing...NOT the recap

This is ignorant. Do you know how much a virgin truck tire costs? Easy to say such a thing when you aren't paying for 18 of them in cycles. The state highway departments need to take one of the five morons watching one guy patch a pothole and maintain the highways properly. Once again, ignorant.

I'm sorry to hear about your car, I hit a raccoon in my old STi that spider webbed the bumper and cracked my fog light. Little things like that just get under your skin.

This happened to me back when I was in Detroit and my insurance covered the repairs. Same thing happened to my sis-in-law (only she ran over an entire wheel and destroyed the whole car), but insurance still covered it. At least check with your insurance to see if they'll contribute.

I have a primitive racing skidplate. Good service, and good quality part.

I did about the same thing except I was doing 65 passing a SUV when they ran over the tire kicked it out to the side I hit it with my Bimmer and it came up hit my hood then got dragged under my car I thought nothing of it till about 5 minutes later my car started reporting bulbs being out. I drive the rest of the way get out find my headlight broke, fog light smashed to bits tear in my bumper, broken underpanels to engine area, smashed wheel liner scratched up skirt and scratched rear bumper.

Since then I found a busted Lower control arm bushing. all this from one tire...

4k worth of damage.
