23-25 mpg Bone Stock About 60% Highway 65-70mph, don't get on it much, but enough to still have fun. I'm with you on watching mileage a bit more, not to the point of selling solely because of it though.

I have managed to squeak out 33.0 mpg on my 04 wrx wagon (stock) by hypermiling, just to see what it would do. Never over 55 mph, 50 mph wherever possible, never over 3k rpm, tires pumped rock hard, lots of coasting. That was on E10. Would have made 34 on E0, but I can't get that, anymore. That was the single most boring and annoying tank of gas I ever burned. 90+% of my driving is rural secondary roads and hwy.
My wife was quite interested in the VW JSW/TDI (since that came up), but it's a) too ugly (especially the interior), b) there's no way in hell I'm spending mid $20's on a car with vinyl seats (no option) and c) 50 mpg means little when the car is broke... and these cars break way... too... often. And expensively. That and local VW dealer service managers are absolute ball busting pricks whose pension program appears to be tied to denial of warranty claims. |

Just finished my trip from STL to San Francisco.
On E85 I drove over 1300 miles and averaged 19mpg. On 91 i drove over 1600 miles and averaged 25mpg. This is with my wagon loaded down with camping gear, my 2 boys, and a thule cargo box. I set cruise control at about 5-10 over the limit, which averaged 65-75. Obviously doing 85 with the cargo box sucked down the gas. |

Just came back from our 1600 mile road trip to Destin, FL. Got 31 mpg when I kept it at 65-70 mph. It dropped to about 29mpg when doing 75~80. Also found out that I can get slightly better mileage without cruise, as I can let off the throttle slightly during going up slopes. This was 95% highway travel, staying off boost. Other times, it gets about 25 mpg during mixed driving. Specs on the car:
03 WRX @ 110k Gas: 93 Octane Stage 2 (catless w/ opensurce) GrimmSpeed P'nP Exhaust Manifold Ported and Polished Throttle Body 17x9 Work Emotions w/ 245/40/17 Tire Pressure: 37 PSI Front, 34 rear |

27 mpg, IL highways with lower speed limits. I typically get 22-24 if I'm not driving like a pissed off teenager...

I'm trying to figure out the cause of my recent drastic increase in highway gas mileage. I went on a 173 mile trip last month and used almost 3/4 of a tank (I think it worked out to around 22 mpg or so). I drove the same route two days ago and used 1.5 quarters of a tank (around 31 mpg).
Mods that I know of are: Invidia DP, UP, 3 inch TBE with Prodrive axleback, Godspeed TMIC, and silicone turbo inlet hose. I'm on the stock 16in wheels and have BC Racing coilovers. The only difference between both trips is that I did the washer mod to my axleback to get a little more volume from the exhaust |

If your looking for outstanding fuel mileage, you purchased the wrong platform.
I just got home from a trip driving from WV to MI and back and averaged 28.5 in my 02 wagon running an open source stage 2 tune. If I can get that, I'm pretty pumped getting that out of an AWD turbo'd car. Around town I'm closer to 20 or so. |

I was worried about gas milage before buying my 02 wagon, but after owning it for 2 days, I could care less. It sounds and drives so sexy

Keep in mind for anyone else listing your mileage, the terrain plays a huge part in mileage. If you live in Texas/Arizona or somewhere else with nice roads and virtually no hills, you will get better mileage than many of us in the Northeast with hills and mountains. |

Catback Infamous stg 1 tune roof rack with fairing (probably going to take it off after my first few mpg calculations) 80% freeway driving at 65-70 mph 20% street driving with lots of hills 19-20 mpg just to make sure im doing this accurately, I fill up right when the gas light comes on and have figured this to be 13.5 gallons. is this how you guys are calculating? because when the gas light comes on, the needle is at the bottom line. the manual says the tank holds 15.9 gallons or something so i just find it hard to gauge how many gallons i should be dividing by. |

So let's say you had 300 miles on the tank and put in 13 gallons. 300 miles/13 gallons =23.1mpg |

I'll update, been a while. Here's my more relevant mods (i think):
Still stage2 OEM box with drop-in K&N catless turboback & uppipe GMS turbo inlet Grimmspeed EBCS EGR delete 17x8 wheels 225tire Exedy Stg1 clutch kit, tapping throwout bearing! Self tuned, Romraider, and likely poor job at that My gas mileage is the same basically. I previously reported 25mpg 50/50 mixed and 28 mostly highway. This last tank of gas was maybe 75% highway, but the rest was all city except for several WOT pulls in 3rd and 4th gear. Got the bug to give it some gas when i got back into town for some reason, was winding it out to ~4.5k every shift in town, I don't know what got into me. Still ended up with 23mpg mixed, I'm sure my shenanigans lowered it quite a bit. 17" wheels didn't seem to affect it too much, maybe 1-2mpg at the most, and that's debatable really. YMMV, literally! |
