With Steve Saleenback at the helm of his namesake automaker, another recognizable name is reappearing in the Saleen sports car lineup. As previewed by the above rendering at the LA Auto Show, the Saleen 351 returns after a 13-year absence with 700 horsepower under the hood – take that Shelby GT500.
That much horsepower is brought to you by a 351-cubic-inch (hence the name) supercharged V8 that also pumps out 655 pound-feet of torque. Power is laid down through a six-speed manual gearbox with a performance clutch and a 3.73 rear axle ratio. The brakes have been upgraded with 15-inch disks for improved stopping performance, too.
For styling, Saleen gave the car carbon fiber front and rear splitters, staggered-width 20-inch wheels, a functional butterfly hood scoop and what it refers to as an "F1-style tail lamp." Strangely, the tuning house didn't actually bring the 351 to the LA show, so we're going to have to wait a bit for more images of this bad boy. Pricing and release date have not been announced yet, either.
