does anyone have this on their subaru oem roof rack? i heard it's good for the hatch's because it gives the bindings on your board some extra clearance so they don't scratch the roof of your car. i'm considering getting them but wanted to hear from other people first.

i have the factory cross bars but went with a yakima big powderhound for the board attachment which came with a 'lift kit' that raises up the one side of the attachments for more clearance(i'm pretty sure the oem subaru ski attachments are the same as the yakima that i bought just rebadged). I had two boards on last year (bindings down) and it was sort of close to hitting the roof but i zip tied the bindings up so they wouldn't move from wind and contact the paint. Both boards with Flow bindings FYI

I have a 2008 WRX Sedan ... I bought the Factory Roof Racks and the ski rack that subaru sells ..
It is the best rack system you can buy for the Subaru. The Racks go on and off in less then 5 min ... the ski racks carry 5 sets of skis , plus you can stack them and the bindings will not hit the roof. I've had 2 other racks , one on a 300M that was our first rack , had to lay the skis side by side because the bindings would hit the roof. The second were for our 4 runner , those are Thule those made a ton of wind noise so we had to buy the front wind dam. Ended up pop riveting a 3/16 flat sheet of aluminum to the ski rack then mount the wind dam to that. Putting the Thule on/off is a PITA. |

I've had two 2012 wrx's (its a long story)both hatches and both have had the OEM snowboard and ski rack. On the first, I was a noob to racks and decided not to buy the lift kit. I live about 15 minutes from the nearest ski slope so I go all the time, and unfortunately I paid the price for not buying the risers. Within the first couple visits, I noticed a small pressed in dent in the center of my roof, directly under where the bindings sit. My advice to you: spend the $16 (or whatever the cost is) and buy the risers. Unfortunately if you're a snowboarder like I am, most bindings will still gently rub against your roof on the lowered side of the rack. Simple fix: A. put the girlfriends snowboard on that side
or B. Take a rag or t-shirt and just tie it around the binding straps to prevent rubbing.Whatever you decide, just remember its cheaper to buy the risers and hate the look then it is to pop a roof dent...(and still hate the look) Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics ![]() ![]() |

Never had an issue with clearance on my car. Though I guess the OBS factory cross bars are already like 5" tall + another 3" or so for the snowboard racks...
