Default Thinking of moving to Greensboro, NC area

Howdy folks.

I have an interview out in Greensboro in a couple weeks and am thinking about ditching the SCIC for a change of scenery. I'll be there with my GF over a weekend to check the place out before my interview.

Any places in the area we should make sure to check out? What do you locals think about the area? What's a good area of town to live in? We are both in our late 20s so I'm not looking for a family friendly suburbia yet. It seems slower paced than LA for sure but I figure both Charlotte and Raleigh are pretty close so that should give me some big city fun when I want it.

Thanks,
JC

Charlotte and if your into racing(Nascar) Concord/Kanapolis would be some good spots to check out.

Greensboro is pretty nice in some areas. If you look about an hour further east there is cary, apex, holly springs and surrounding towns that are all very nice to live in and are within miles of downtown raleigh. Maybe some of the triad guys can post up in here for you on things/places to check out. When are you coming, maybe you can catch up with some of them at a meet as they do them every weekend.

Edit: just saw you had an interview in g-boro so I doubt you'd want an hour commute. There are still very nice places to be in the triad though. Areas just east like Burlington are nice also.

I'm an hour north of Greensboro and I spend many of my days off in the area since there is so much to do. The roads are fairly simple to learn since they all can land you inside of one gigantic circle. Very many nice areas there with a huge car scene in general. I was hanging out with some of the stance crowd yesterday even though my car is far from that.

Greensboro is decent. Winston-Salem is a larger city. Its 30 minutes west of greensboro and offers a little more as far as entertainment. You could plop in the middle of both in a nice town called Kernersville.

It is a bit cheaper and has very nice housing. The car scene in NC is not that of SoCal, but hey, its a slower place here.

Big cities of interest for day or weekend get aways.

In Hours(from greensboro)
1 VIR raceway
1.5ish away Charlotte, Lake Norman and Raleigh
2ish Boone, Hickory, Roanoke
3.5ish Coastal areas and Asheville
5ish Robinsville and Tail of the Dragon

You sir are retarded. Greensboro is way bigger than Winston. There is nothing to do really in Winston. People in Winston drive to Greensboro for stuff to do.

<- born and raised in Winston, lives and works in Greensboro now.

On to the OP...
I moved to Greensboro after commuting from Winston for two years. The wife and I had a apartment for awhile downtown, then recently bought a house in the summerfield area(northern Greensboro). If you are looking for a area that's not family oriented then look at apartments down town. Waking distance from many food places, bars, clubs, etc.
if you want some place not near the hipster/party scene then stay away from downtown downtown and get a place more on the outskirts of that. But it's all what you make it (we lived 100 ft from a bar but never went out and all that crazy stuff), again it's all what you make it.
Hope that cleared some up for you. Where are you interviewing for if you don't mind me asking?

Never did I say it was larger than Greensboro.... I said it was a larger city. As in one of the top 5 large cities in NC. But I have lived here my whole life so Greensboro's night life is mundane. We can all agree at least we don't live in Fayetteville.

OP, check out the Tail of the Dragon meet thread. A group of the Greensboro guys are going and this would a good bonding exp. We generally get our own cabin site with fire pit.
