Default Some window tinting questions

Minnesota... laws are all windows must allow "more than 50% of light through". At walmart all I see is 35, 25, 10, and 5% VLT, aren't those ALL illegal, technically speaking? Wouldn't it have to be at least 51% VLT to be legal?

Anyway, how much does it cost to get it installed professionally from a reputable, but not necessarily overpriced person? And where can I buy some tint that's MN legal?

Edit: also need a sticker stating the % tint if you add tint to your car, will an installer make one?

A reputable installer should put that sticker on your window. Cost depends on what grade tint, what vehicle, how many windows, and how bad the installer is hurting for money (cash price helps at certain places).

Installers usually have a preferred brand/type they use. Purchase discounts play a role but you need to research the EXACT tint before pulling the trigger.

Window tinter here (7+ years of exp)

I'm actually not 100% sure how a tint shop goes about adding the sticker in the tint, but I do know that a tint shop cannot put it.
Even if they do, it makes no difference because it is not official.
There's really no point to it except to help make things easier if/when you do get pulled over for it.

As for the 50%, you would probably have to go with anything higher than 50% such as 60% or 70%.

Just call around and see what film each tint shop uses. You definitely don't want to go with a no name unknown film. Trust me. In the long run, it's just a headache for both the customer and tinter when you go to take it off.
Some good USA made films that I've worked with that have great warranty are Llumar and Johnson Renegade.

Price wise really depends on the shop and what brand of film they use. Make sure you look up reviews, although reviews aren't everything, but they do tell a lot.

You should also ask the tint shops how frequently they get people that need to remove the film because they got pulled over. If there's not much, take a chance with a darker shade. It will look awesome! If not, I'd just go with a nice quality 50% that blocks off heat. (Llumar or Johnson)

I thought NH sucked with not allowing tint of any sort on the front windows. But 50% max all around? ouch.

Go to a reputable shop, you don't want it looking like crap in a year. And your glass has some light blocking (forget the percent), so just tell the installer what you want the final percent to be, and if they're any good they will chose the film appropriate to match that.

Why not pickup the phone and call a local tinting professional and get the most accurate information according to your location, to include price of service?
