Time to dust off the thread. There have been a number of events that have been going on out of my control. But I aim to get this back on track and have a bit of a bombshell of an announcement.

Instead of the previously plannned 2.5L block... we are going to be running 3.3L EG33 6 cylinder and focusing on NASA. This will put the car in Open All-Wheel Light Class. There were a few reasons behind this move. First and foremost was the cost factor of replacing turbos. Simplicity is also a plus. Linear power curve. And another huge factor is the fact that with 3 Imprezas sitting in the driveway already, I'm in the mood for something different. I had considered this route quite some time ago but rejected the idea initially based on the fact that it simply seemed silly and unnecessary. When I was at Havspeed though, Andrew and I got into the discussion. He actually had already purched 2 EG33 engines. The idea had started to pick up momentum during the "downtime" of this build and so I scaked up and started asking the opinions of builders/drivers in the community. The response was surprising. I had initially expected the idea to be scoffed at but so far this has been largely a positive twist.

There will be some unique challenges with this but some plans are already being set into motion. Amusingly enough though it will actually get this car on the road sooner. Both due to dramatically decreased financial investment as well as a new spark of motivation (I like the idea of not having to wrench on another damn EJ engine right now) I secured an engine and will be going to get it soon. Research at Moore Performance has already started on exhaust headers for a sister project that is currently underway (that will be a BEAST of a forester..) . Carbotron has already been making valuable suggestions on cooling (actually a very cool surprise in store for that) and a few more little nuggets of info will be trickling out in the coming weeks. This is hardly the most orthodox powerplant. With the new S2000 rules coming into effect overseas this actually will put the car at approaching double the displacement of a modern WRC car. I'm sure this choice will have it's supporters and critics but I'm very much looking forward to hearing the howl of this beast when it comes to life.

More info and updates soon!

Cool! I put the EG33 into my Legacy rally car this spring and have only run a couple events since then but I drive it a lot around town and it puts a smile on my face every time.

I'd like to hear about the cooling surprise, mine gets rather warm on stage. I increased the waterpump inlet size and that made a HUGE difference but my overall system still needs work.

The one thing people always mention about the car is that it sounds amazing. I have to agree there's nothing else like a flat six noise coming through the woods..

If you haven't seen the thread on dirtyimpreza yet you ought to have a look, there is some good info about EG33 swap's there. http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=12965

I can't wait for more info.

That is FAR more interesting than an EJ25 turbo build. The sixes sound amazing; it ain't no Porsche, but still awesome with it's own character and flavor.

Aye it's been way too long since an update. Sadly I need to get my ass back in gear. Way too many other little distractions in life have been going on.

In the Subaru area I've been doing some car shuffing and sold 2 and picked up a new daily driver that wont be requiring my constant attentions and money (pictured front):

It's a blast and only has ~40k on the clock so should be lasting me for some time to come.

Also just becuase, here's a shot of it from Snow X a year or so ago.

Also I'm selling those P7s probably if you really do want them. Text me if you're interested.

If only I had known just how much constant attention it would require. 6 months of constant headache...

So it looks like we're going with 20 gauge steel rocker panels. The company that Andrew knows if fabbing them up right now. They shold be ready inside a few days and then those go on.

I'll be talking to the e-brake manufacturer to get that shipped off to the car and then it'll be time to get that installed. Here's a preview of that

Thinking of changing the handle. Still haven't decided how I want it yet. The mount itself will be slightly rotated and mounted high so it's more of a natural feel to pull and I can return to the wheel quickly. When used in conjunction with the dual master cylinders the tilton's provide me it should provide a very nice braking setup.
Hey there... great reading... where did you buy the pedal and handbrake from?

There have been some ups and downs. With money being so tight lately I had actually put feelers out to have the car up for sale. Now that I'm about to be starting a great new job though the build might be back on. We shall see...
