I'm going to try this myself soon with MAF cleaner. I saw a video on how to clean a mustang one but is it basically the same deal with the subaru MAF? Just take it out, spray it a bunch, let it sit for an hour and reinstall? Anything I should know about wiping it or anything? I am currently a stage 2 cobb map, I don't need to reset anything to clean the MAF right?

How do I reset my ECU if I am using Cobb Stage 2 AP? Is it the same with or without the the AP because I would like to clean my MAF, and IACV valve the same time but I hear it is neccesary to reset the ECU. Thanks guys

You don't need to reset the ECU, but if you want to just use the AP. Make sure you're still running the right map, however, as I'm pretty sure a reset will delete any realtime map you have loaded; the base map will still be there, but any realtime map and all learning will go bye-bye.

So its not neccesary then when cleaning the MAF and IACV? I just dont want anything to go wrong, and hear people of resetting the ecu.

An ECU reset (disconnection of battery) is a good idea with any "new" mod. It let's the ECU learn the clean MAF values easier. But as stated above, make sure your running your correct map if using an AP.

You can reset the ECU with the AP, no need for a battery disconnect.

I figured that, but vic92189 has one and I didn't want him to get confused. I'm kinda surprised, however, that he hasn't noticed the "reset ECU" option on the AP menu...

I have never cleaned mine nor had problems and I use a K and N filter, but will probably switch over to a dry flow filter soon to avoid problems

I clean mine every other oil change when I rotate tires. It takes just a couple min and is cheap. Why wouldn't you do it?

I'm at 97k and mine very well may have never been done. I've had it for the last 3-4k.
My AF learning 1 values have been in the 8-11% range. I did a vacuum test and it didn't show any leaks. MAF is next on my checklist... and maybe even an O2 sensor... but you can't clean those. Thanks for the thread. |

How do you know if your MAF is dirty & are their symptoms for it being dirty? I'm not sure If that is the case, or If I have a vacuum leak.

Just reporting back... since finding this thread, I cleaned mine.. 2004 WRX with 98k and I'm assuming it's never been touched. It was dirty, but not as dirty as I would expect.
Didn't do a damn thing for mileage or for my high AF learning values. Turns out, it was a leaky BPV gasket causing that. As for cleaning the MAF, I'd only recommend it if you have a MAF related problem.... or 'maybe' every 100k. Butt dyno didn't change, even after resetting the ECU and letting it learn. |
