Cutting and drilling always scares me too. Another benefit of having a body shop do the work is that if something goes wrong they have to fix it

The main priority with me is getting the most out of the parts that I have dumped money into. Bodywork is out of my league, and I wanted a clean, sanitary install, no ugly gaps or zip ties. The car has made some concessions to be a daily driver, and for me no beat up zip tied beast would be do. Additionally, it was my top priority to have maximum compression travel and maximum tire clearance for my future goals. While I have stayed on top and learned things from the body shop, sealing multiple panels for chassis rigidity and compression travel was beyond my abilities. I am looking at the body shop as an investment, now I know how to do the job properly for future installs (someday soon my lil ol 240 will be getting some flares to fit 275's). All about doing the job properly the first time, and now I have paid to get that knowledge for future builds, just like why I had gst do my fuel system, so I could learn new skills to put in my toolbox.

As of yesterday, my car should be going in for paint today!!!!

Just going through my pictures and realized I never uploaded these. Prior to sending the car to the bodyshop I removed my oem u brace to help cut off weight on the front end of a front heavy car. To keep the chassis rigidity acceptable, I replaced the oem u brace with a Cusco V.2 front under chassis u h brace. This ties the important suspension pickups together and saves a considerable amount of weight off the front end without reducing chassis rigidity. Combined with my other weight savings on the front end (AMS lightweight front bumper beam, removal of oem battery and relocation, Cusco Underbrace to replace oem u brace, perrin headers to replace oem headers, APS TMIC which adds some of that weight back) should go quite a ways for improving the weight distribution and lightening up the front end. Looking forward to how this heavy street car corner balances, Trying to do a couple of simple things to help improve the static weight distribution for a street car, obviously there is a ton more that can be done if my budget was higher (i.e. Lic dry carbon panels) etc. but it is a decent start for a well balanced daily driven street car. And as the build progresses, I can always do more in the future.

The Cusco Underbody brace does bolt right in with all my existing modifications, and easily fits with my Whiteline Race ALK. The stack of washers is necessary to fit with the ALK, but comes with the Cusco Brace. I am deciding whether it is worth taking the spacers down to a mchinist and get some 1 piece spacers cut to replace the spacers and clean up the look of the install. Not sure, but it is functional and effective right now, and does cut a considerable amount of weight off the front of the car with 0 drawbacks.

Getting excited, just ordered a Synapse DV Valve to replace my oem BOV. This will have the tmic flange for direct bolt on fitment, and is a very quality piece. The tunability and piston construction has shown very promising results, allows less loss of boost during shifting, no leaking, improved part throttle driveability, etc. After reading a number of reviews and performance testing on the evo IX and GD STI on motoiq(both cars have pretty darn good boost control from the factory), I have decided to give this dv valve a shot, as I am aiming to make the GTX3071 spool as fast as possible with maximum throttle response. I have to try everything when I am attempting to spool that large of a turbo with my measly ej205, and as I keep telling myself through the build, it will all transfer over to a built 2.5 block. I will post with results, everybody I have talked to has provided positive reviews about something as simple as a BOV/DV Valve.

I wouldn't worry about spool too much. I have a gtx3076r with .63 exhaust housing, on a stock 205 and I'm getting 22psi by 44-4500 rpm. And im making right at 400awhp and that's in Denver. I am rotated and pulling it out to 8k rpm though.

Yeah we will see, I am doing everything possible to make that turbo spool as quick as possible, see if we can make it behave similar to a gt 2871. I wish I had gone rotated from the beginning, I was initially scared off from the price but after adding my build all up I am pretty darn close to a rotated. Of course i was not pricing merely a rotated kit, but felt if i was going to spend the money i wanted to purchase a full race twin scroll kit. I do wish I had gone rotated instead of stock location even if it wasn't the full race twin scroll, I would have been able to use a true Garrett gt turbo with genuine Garrett housings, ease of maintenance and accessibility, plus the direct and easy intake tract (I would have done a 4 inch intake that tapered to 3 inches at the turbo to increase the velocity of the air). Well hindisght is 20/20, I will be doing something very well thought out on my built motor, either full race twin scroll efr setup or a twin scroll low mount turbo.

More progress at the bodyshop, car has been primered and should be going in for paint today. Car should be ready for pickup on Friday. Progress is looking good!!!

Some more pics from the body shop. The body shop spent a little extra time making sure the flares fit my fenders exactly. There was very little modification needed, as the flares fit very closely, but a little work was needed as my fenders had there shape changed with the previous pull. If you didn't do a super aggressive pull like I had done, this should not be necessary, as my bodyshop was very very impressed with the quality of the flares. They were talking to me about how they were made, and how the body shop that made them had done a couple of extra steps to make these very high quality, but I can not remember what they called it, but they were very impressed.

It was very important to me to have everything match and look oem in fitment, I didn't want gaps or ziptied panels, I want the exterior to look as functional and proper as the parts under the hood. The bodyshop is taking their time and taking a lot of pride in their work, which is very very refreshing.

I will probably make one out of alumalite, but do not have a time frame for it. I will probably just drive the **** out of it for a little while and enjoy having the car back, then in a couple months after doing some other projects come back to the wrx and make the splitter. Not sure yet, I just know my 240sx needs some love and is getting a little tired so I need to decide whether to do a ls/vq swap and keep the car with some refreshing of the suspension, or swap a s15 sr20 and sell the car. Not sure yet, still deciding... I really do not have the budget for a dedicated track car, but it sure is nice having a second car to drive when your primary.car is out of commission for a little while.

I'm not sure if they are specific to the bugeye or not, I believe so. I purchased them from extemeyolks on iwsti, I know he had them custom made to fit his 06 sti. They were originally Shelby AC Cobra fender flares I believe, and the body shop did a lot of custom work to make them fit his sti, and then he purchased the molds from the body shop. I know mine are slightly different than his, as his had a little cut out on the front flare for the vent that the 06 sti has on the bumper just forward of the wheel. I know they fit my bugeye pretty darn perfectly when I first held them up to my wrx, the body shop is just doing a little extra molding and bodywork to make it fit perfectly as my fenders had already been altered when I originally pulled them. As the bodyshop is top notch, they wanted to show the local subaru crowd how clean they could make a wrx look with flares, so they went the extra mile to make the fit exact. The body shop is working together with me to bring to show subies in the bay area there is an affordable option to run big race rubber other than the large investment in a widebody kit.

I know I was very happy with the original fitment, if I did the install at my house they would have fit fine with the runserts and been perfect for a track car, maybe very slight fitment issues, but nothing that wasn't covered in extremeyolks build thread. Since I was scared of doing the bodywork myself, I asked the body shop to make sure it fit perfectly since it would just be a little more work on their end, and since it is a street car I wanted it to look very, very good. I know the body shop was very happy with the quality of the flares, although I can't remember the technical names they said of how it was made, but I know they were very impressed. It is hard to say how much of the little bodywork done to make it fit perfect was because of the previous pull I did to drive to the bodyshop with my 275's.

So in summary... very little bodywork for a perfect fit on the bugeye, can be bolted on for a pretty **** good fitment (just a little bit of work for a perfect fit and that was probably just because my fenders were slightly wavy from my initial pull). I would not have been impressed with a poorly fitting body part on this caliber of a build, and I must say both my body shop and I are very very impressed.

Huge, HUGE thanks to Karlton (extremeyolks) on IWSTI for bringing these to the market. I know they were absolutely perfect for me, and saved me from having to go to a widebody to fit my tires. Plus he is super friendly, really went out of his way to help me out and show me how he installed his, as well as gave advice on my setup and goals. Super nice and helpful, thanks for taking the time to help out a noob.

Those are bugeye specific flares. The Peanut and Hawkeye models had a different radius on the wheel opening IIRC.

I figured they had to be bugeye specific due to the excellent fitment and the change for the front bumper vent. I was unaware of the different radius on the wheel wells good to know.
