Judging by the interior on that one, I'm going to assume it took on significant flooding.

That GTR was cleaned really nicely. Too bad its probably fried and fixing it might cost the owner just as much as what he paid for it.

If you are a tuner these can be big opportunity to get new platform at "beat up 100k mi price" All titles and auctions will declare flood damage. Many will ship overseas.

I would be more concerned with the sanitation of the car. NY streets are nasty.

It's super tempting to buy one of these things. Good deals on a lot of them.
Hell, for some of the prices they're going for you could just rag it for like two years and drop it off at the scrapper. Who cares if it breaks? |

While consumers wanting their car to "work" may drive a lot of this stuff I'm pretty sure there aren't any consumers jumping up and down because their car has a redundant IMU, or a watchdog ECU on their AWD controller making sure it decouples during an ABS event to prevent from locking up the rear axle and spinning the vehicle. Most of these systems have more government driven safety and diagnostic features than actual functional control software. Sooo...2012 Corvette currently for sale at $225. Donor for a Factory Five GTM? |

Seriously. I could do one of these and deal with it for a year even.
I'd be curious to see how long these things will work. Living on the water here in new england our cars are constantly barraged with salt air and salt water/brine when they cover the roads in the winter. --kC |

Found this gem... a rare 2013 Honda Accord with RWD. But seriously. For $225... if it drives, drive it till it breaks.

What's involved getting a license to be able to purchase one of these heaps? I was looking through the list a couple days ago and want to pull the trigger on one or two, stripping it, and making it an off-roady hooptie of sorts.

I'm pretty sure you need a dealers license or go through a broker to buy one of these. You should check out IAA. If your looking for a project they have some wrecked or flood damages subies on there.

I spoke with a progressive agent and he was telling me that they are crushing 99% of the cars just because the salt water is so bad on the electronics. I also asked why they are not selling them as parts only and he said they don't wanna deal with it because even if it is sold as parts only the scammers will figure out a way to wash to title. He said back when hurricane katrina hit they sold all those cars and salvage and it was nothing but problems because they ended up paying out on cars that they already payed out on once. You might get a flood car running then a year or two later everything goes wrong.

It's too bad they can't figure out a sanctioned way to part them out and then cut up the chassis so that they can't be put back on the road. There'd be a glut of used parts out on the market anyway. Seems like a waste to just crush them.
