My house was on the bayside, so not my cars, there are hundreds of cars scattered around the city that are not going to be driving again. I'm hoping to be able to find some gas cans and gas today when I head back from Boston. My parents have a generator running at their house, but there isn't gas anywhere to fill them up anymore. I'm stopping at the dealer in Harftord today when I grab a rental car. I'll check out what they have, and maybe give you some more details, thanks for the help and suggestions.

Goldstein Subaru in Albany is a solid dealer, so if you cannot find it in Hartford consider Albany (no, I don't work there).

That being said the Crosstrek is a little taller and heavier with the same engine. To me that spells even more underpowered, perfect if you need to drive offroad but overkill for typical commuting.

The Impreza Sport isn't a power king, but it is a nice car.

But who are we kidding, your wife will want to buy one or the other based upon the color and how it feels to her, so let her decide.

The WRX for you will just be a newer version of what you had, I like the crosstrek actually, and so does my wife. I worry that many car dealers are going to see this as an opportunity to gouge people. If I were you, I'd go as Far East or south to buy the cars. Buying in the sandy zone might be tough. Any thoughts on an Outback? My wife loves the outback for sure

Well, with that type of rationale....before, during, and after Sandy there are millions of children starving to death around the world. You selfishly upgraded your turbo and put a larger motor in your car. Do you know how many of those kids you could have fed and kept alive? Geez, talk about selfish inconsiderate.

I modded my car cause I only care about myself, so don't even go there.

OP, glad you and your wife are safe. Love the look of the Crosstrek, let us know how it drives.

Test drive every car that isn't under water. Also, try and make a simple decision for yourself once in a while. It can be a freeing experience.

Whoa, tough crowd here

I have a feeling the roads are going to be beat up for a while so if "sport" isn't the primary driver for her I'd go for better clearance. I have an XV on order and having driven a few of them I can say that I think it's nicer to drive than the sport wagon. The ride is really similar, just a touch more firm, it has dramatically less body roll and the higher seating position is nice actually. If the extra weight slows the car down I challenge you to actually feel it, with the more crisp suspension and stiffer chassis (yes they did beef it a bit) the car is pretty snappy. Not fast for sure but it has a nice attitude.

If you come back up to the Boston area, I can lend you a couple 6 gallon and a 2.5 gal gas can. Not much, but better than nothing. PM me if you're up here again.

Really appreciate the offer, but already to of town, seems like gas is becoming a little easier to get, so hopefully we should be on the better side of that problem at least. Much easier to run generators and all that to help clean up and stay warm.

As for the cars, waiting to hear from insurance still, but loved the Crosstrek and hoping to grab a 2013 WRX.

Ill post up some shots in the daylight

Happy Driving

Picked up both of the new ones at this point. I picked up my 2013 WRB WRX yesterday, I'll try and put up some photos. Loving both of them. Not much planned for the wife's XV, but a few fun things for mine on the way.

Just for the record... The impreza is way... way to low to the ground. If i hit a pot hole i'm taking a risk on bottoming out... Also the Foglights suck and Be VERY careful with the Cruise button.. Other than that i love it

If you are talking about foglights on the XV or Impreza 2.0 they can be aimed, mine were aimed at the ground. Much better once they were adjusted.

I hope your dealer alerted you to SOA's special program for people whose cars were damaged by Sandy.

Suck it up you pansy. That was like a light rain storm to people that live in the gulf.

I love how overly dramatic the north is when they get a little ****ing shower. Oh noez world ending I have 2 inches of water in my house.

My mom's house got destroyed in Houston, full roof torn off, etc.. That's a storm.

You sir are a **** sucker.

I don't think I've ever seen so many people on NASIOC agree on a single topic before

To OP: As someone who moved out of NJ less than two months before Sandy hit I have seen the destruction of my neighborhood, I'm happy that your house and most of your belongings made it through the storm. I truly do feel for you.

On a happier note though congratulations on the two new cars! They look great Don't mind the stupid comments. He was from "Pennsyl-Tucky" after all
