Default '03 wrx engine swap opinions

hey local nasiocers!

so here's the low down..
i have a stage 2 2003 wrx bugeye, 130,xxx miles.
within the next year i plan on swapping the stock 2.0L EJ out and doing something different.

im looking for the best price-quality-power ratio i can find.

i've heard a lot about either forging my internals (rebuild) or picking up a JDM spec EJ?

i want to go with a bigger turbo as well, maybe just a VF39?

let me know what you think the best option is thanks

if u want a great drop in and go motor(with a little bit of wiring)
the ej207 motors with the stock twinscroll vf37 kit makes great power!
take in mind tho, they are veryyyyyy pricey but rev to 8250 rpms and believe me, it pulls HARD!
also remember being in cali you have smog, so you will need to "illegally" do it or search on how to make it cali legal

you could also build your 2.0l, or even do an ej257 block with your stock ej205 heads.

if u plan on only going vf39, you could do forged pistons but those arent needed but its piece of mind.

hmmm okay ill keep that in mind, when you say "veryyyyy pricey" that makes me know i cant afford it lol, I'm thinking i might rebuild and go vf39, or just pick up a ej with low miles and a vf39 and tune, im just worried about the miles on my current engine.

Ej207 can be found for around 4k. Rebuilding your old motor will Probaly come close to that depending on how much work u do.

Honestly, call around n see how much a rebuild would cost you. Then see how much a ej207 would cost you.

If I could find an ej207 for a decent price is pick it over a rebuilt ej205 anyday

Best option for what? What's the car used for?

Daily for now, until I change my mind in the future.

Curious why you want to swap out your motor if you're only planning just a VF-39? Is your motor on the way out? The VF-39 will top out pretty early, I feel it's a waste of building/swapping a motor.

TBH, I miss my 2.0L paired with a VF-35. Since my motor blew, I put in a 2.5L shortblock with the 2.0 heads, and it's just not the same.

yes exactly, its just becoming high mileage and been pushed in the past. i dont want to go up to a 2.5, i wanna keep a 2.0, and possibly build with a vf39 because its slightly larger and can hold more boost + i wont be paying thousands for a "big" turbo upgrade ya know.
