I scored a 04 STI, needs motor rebuild anyone local can do? would love to help if schedule allows...

It's not even close to trivial and some special tools are needed for a few things.

Swapping would likely be better - find a good longblock and move your stuff over.

Do you know for sure what is bad?

she is knocking really bad, could it be something not internal to engine? maybe but it really sounds like rod knock..

but I'm going to see if i find a way to troubleshoot the knock..

Most likely rod knock.

It's pretty obvious that's for sure.

Motor is being rebuilt...total disaster inside motor..
Oil pickup tube cracked... shavings inside motor from lack of oil pressure, Crankshaft gone, oil pump gone, maybe r/h head gone ( at machine shop currently, i hope its savable) spun rod
