Question Are you a Craigslist Subie Search Ninja?

Not sure if this is the right section or not .. mod's please move if so.

Curious to any tips from the community here when it comes to searching for deals on Subies on Craigslist.

I also came across a Craigslist Alerts app called http://clalerts.org .. it sends me Craigslist email Alerts based on how I search on Craigslist.

I'm very interested in how others use search negations etc inside Craigslist to find what they are looking for without getting a bunch of false positives.

I have an app on my phone that does the same thing. As with anything Craigslist, you have to weed through the crap, there is no way around it. There is a local place that posts fenders and headlights and another that posts radiators every other day under auto parts/owner instead of dealer. There is also plenty of local jackasses that post their list of civic crap with 'subaru' in their keywords at the bottom. I called one of them one day and asked if any of his parts would work on my subaru... he hung up.

I have heard negations work well.. for example say you were searching for a wrx your search would look like this "wrx -sti -parts -fenders -brakes -wheels -salvage -2.5"

^Patience is the key. You don't want to jump into a car that will be problematic down the road. Personally I feel craigslist is not the best place to buy a car especially a Subaru. I got lucky on craigslist and have had my 06 wrx for nearly 3 years and its been a phenomenal car. I searched for a year and a half and looked at a dozen cars before I decided to purchase one and I couldn't be happier.

That app sucks.

There are others that don't crash I don't understand why people make apps that perform at less capacity than other apps already out there.

I hate that crap. It is pretty apparent, however, what quality the seller is when you take a look at the effort they put into their ad. I always take the time to write up something professional, with proper grammar, and plenty of pictures. If someone isn't willing to put the same amount of work in, I don't even bother.

I have the same question - I am annoyed that I cannot pick multiple regions in my search so I have to go to each state and region when I want to look. I wish there was a way to look in multiple regions at once!

One of the Craigslist iPhone apps (c-Pro) lets you add more cities to your search. Right now I have mine set to search in almost every city in a hundred mile radius. That's how I found my subie but there really is no way to get past those people who tag Honda parts with every tag imaginable. The best advice for looking on Craigslist has to be keep vigilant and check often.
