Is it worth it to bring to the dealership, or should I just buy coolant and top it off myself?
My coolant level looks like yours when cool but right at the full line when hot. I am at 5100 miles.

Mine looks like that when my engine is cold too. I always check my fluids when my engine is cold (mainly because it's easier to read the oil dipstick), so I'm not sure where the coolant level is when it's hot.

OK, I just checked mine after driving home from work. When the engine is hot, my coolant level falls perfectly on the FULL line. So what you showed in your picture is my cold level, and the FULL line is my hot level.

Right after driving home from work, I had a look and my coolant is over the full mark. It basically is level with the top of the "FULL" lettering.

Is this with the engine cold? (Like first thing in the morning cold?)

I am in the "it still has plenty of coolant if the heater is working" school of thought about this.

Does anyone know what could cause the smell of antifreeze that isn't antifreeze? I smell it all the time, but after the car is warmed up the coolant is always at the full mark, right on.

Might be cosmoline. Used to be a popular topic that was posted about even pre USDM arrival of the WRX back in the 2.5rs days. It was a coating on the engine that smelled unique.

Well, I finally brought my car in to check on this issue. My car has lost the amount of coolant represented by the full and low marks (confirmed when cold or hot) In a Span pf about 400i. They ran a pressure test and also shows me a full visual inspection including having the car on the lift and taking th undercover off. Sigh. At lest they did it all with good faith diligence. Guess they will too it off and I'm glad it's in the system for now in case this gets worse as time goes on.

I wonder if it would be worth submitting an oil sample for a Used Oil Analysis, to see if there's coolant in your oil.

Hmmmm. Interesting suggestion. If this persists I may do that. Ill be changing my oil in the next couple of weeks and see I'd anything is notable by eye. I did have a head gasket leak on an old car way back when where that was happening.

Just an FYI if you decide to pursue this further, you can order a free UOA kit from Blackstone Labs, and only pay if you decide to send in a sample. You might want to order the kit now so that you'll have it in a couple of weeks, if you want to use it.
