Unhappy Help this girl out! 2008 Legacy with a blown head gasket!

I have a well maintained 2008 Sub Legacy with a blown head gasket!! The service manager said owell out of the mileage, GM said he sees these EJ25 engine with this problem all the time! But all he wanted to do was sell me a new car. SOA 12 calls later the have told me it's a known problem, theres a recall on the engine, but not on my VIN!!! The service manager even said once it's fixed there's NO problems. That mean facorty defect people! Today was the last straw. I'm a struggling single mom still paying payments on what I thought was going to be a reliable not a cheap car! HELP!!!! Ideas how to get these jerks to pay? The last manager I spoke to LINDA at SOA had me in tears she was mean to me. I work on cars, did the drive belts and plugs myself, just paid $700 for a new timing belt and tranny FLUSH not partial drain - my mechanis flabbergasted and said there is something wrong with this thing straight out of the factory...

How many miles? Timing belts not normally due until 105,000 miles. When the timing belt was done did they also change water pump? When the coolant services were done did they add the Subaru coolant conditioner?

I had a 06 LGT with no problems / traded it in at 106,000 miles.

Sorry to hear, but....

You state that your car is well out of warranty mileage. The recall out there does not apply to your car. I fail to see how that equates to a factory defect straight out of the factory.

Subaru agrees to repair defects that occur under the warranty period. You can't expect them to pay for everything that goes wrong with every high mileage vehicle.

Are you working with a dealer that normally services your car? Did you buy it from them?

The GM is a moron. The EJ25D was known for gasket failure.

My wife has an 05 OB with well over 100k on it. Last year SOA replaced the HG under warranty because of the known issue.

How many miles?

Welcome to the world of car ownership. The car was sold in 2007 which makes it over 5 years old now, possibly close to 6 years. Some Subaru's, including the motor in your car, do have a history of head gasket failures. It will likely cost you around $700 to fix.

I'd do all the work for you free of charge and all you'd have to buy is a gasket set.

I'm pretty sure they'll charge $2000 plus for a head gasket replacement if they're doing all the labor. $700 would be a gift.

That's the going rate at my two local Subaru dealerships. It's about $700 per side, give or take $50. I use to own a 98 LGT wagon with the "Phase I" EJ25 and I was always concerned about the HG issue that plagued those motors. Never had a failure though in 11 years of ownership and 118K miles.
