Truth be told, I actually enjoyed the hotrod styling of the SSR.

Speaking of which, the photo they used is from the very same concept in 2008. Gotta love GM!

This. The SSR has as much utility as a Corvette does, which is to say, not much.

You take that back!

The vast majority of pickup owners will never need or ever use the higher ride hight or 4wd capabilities. They may never even use the bed for hauling things around.

That being said. UTE's are what 99% of all pickup's should be.

This is not an official GM announcement, it's third party speculation.

Default GM files for ‘El Camino’ and ‘Nomad’ trademarks

Quote:
According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark office, GM has applied for trademarks on the Chevrolet ‘El Camino’ and ‘Nomad’ names. GM filed for the El Camino badge on Aug. 9 followed by the Nomad name on May 22.
Does this mean that the two models will be resurrected. Not at all. GM says it has no plans at this point to use the names.
“Chevrolet benefits from a rich history of iconic names and monikers,” a GM spokesman wrote in an e-mail to Automotive News. “We trademark these names as needed to protect them as a matter of practice.”
Of course, enthusiasts are in hopes that the trademarks could mean that GM is planning successors for the classic models.

If GM is planning this vehicle for the US market it isn't coming soon. I have seen a grand total of 1 of these driving around. When the ATS was being developed I'd see a dozen a day in metro Detroit. The same is true for the new XTS and the new Impala. I expect GM would have a much higher volume of the 'ute' test vehicles cruising around southeast Michigan if they were developing the platform and various calibrations for the US market.

the UTE will NEVER come to our shores. GM has confirmed this several times.
There is not enough want for one here (despite what a couple forums may say) to sell them in mass... if they brought enough over to satisfy the small crowd that wants them, cost effective is not even a term worth considering.

Never say never.

Do you think they're going to say it will, when it's only in the initial stages? No. Never show all your hand early, especially in a competitive market.

After all, Subaru said we'd never see a WRX, or STi, or you'll never see a 2.5L Turbo. Manufacturers HAVE TO deny everything until it's (almost) final. Need to know and all that.

I KNOW it won't be coming over here. EVER.

How? Because I want one. This is perfect for me: high performance and fun, yet I can haul a minor load of tools, fishing gear, or mulch in the back without trashing the interior. (I'm OCD about keeping a clean interior). Small truck utility for a guy that hates trucks. This is the one sort of vehicle that I've said I would readily buy, brand new, if it ever comes over. Be aware that otherwise, I've never bought a new vehicle, and never intend to.

From some reason, if there is something that I really desire, it's never available or immediately become unavailable. No joke. If there's a restaurant that has a menu item and I decide I really like it, for absolutely unexplained reasons it is immediately dropped. If there is a store item that I really desire, it will go out of stock or is dropped from the selection moments before I walk in the door.

True story. My wife has noted this and laughs at my misfortune all the time. I prefer to think it's just because I'm eccentric, but she says it's probably because I'm a weirdo with terrible taste, and nobody caters to my interests for good reason.

Good point, but I've always found that the Baja fell a bit short in terms of what I wanted in the "high performance" category.

Turbo Bajas are relatively rare, and they are even more rare with manual transmissions. Not that I'm dead set against automatics, but I just don't like the 4eat on these turbo motors (personal preference), and it would take a lot, both under the hood and in the suspension department, to get a Baja to run with the V8 utes GM is selling is Australia.

I think I'd be happy with a V8 El Camino out of the box. I hate to say it, but I'm starting to get tired of working on and modifying my personal rides. I'm getting into my mid 30s, and when I get home from work I just want to do other things nowadays, especially since I spend a lot of time working on other people's cars on the side, anyway.

I'm at a point where I think I'd like to get a car that I'm really happy with as is and just maintain it, nothing more.

The market just isn't right. They've been around for forever down under. I get it, and you maybe right...And eventually yes, you will see these... they're a fad, and like the wagon/hot hatch craze, the market here for one of these will be back and chevy luckily has the means and the existing platform to throw one into production quickly.

Its a matter of time, but that goes for EVERYTHING.

I had a Turbo Baja with a 4EAT. I can verify that as accurate. A 4EAT with a 2.5L turbo sucks donkey balls. They need at least a 5EAT.

I would so buy a new nomad if it looked anything like the wagons they sell in Australia... Please bring it w/ a 6 speed!

The utes / "el camino's" were all over australia when I was there a few months ago. Makes sense for a lot of businesses as a commercial vehicle, as well as the average person that needs to haul things like a truck, but wants a vehicle that drives like a car

Calamity Jesus, come on man, if were talking about ranchero's the ones to get are 65-66
