Default 2013 McLaren MP4-12C

http://wot.motortrend.com/free-power...hp-214149.html

McLaren knows how to make a good thing better, as the automaker has announced the new MP4-12C will boast 24 more horses for a total output of 616 hp. While potential customers are surely smiling, existing owners are too, because McLaren also revealed their cars will receive the power upgrade for free. The Ferrari 458 Italia makes 557 hp, for comparison.

In a letter to MP4-12C owners, McLaren’s managing director Anthony Sheriff outlined the upgrades to the new MP4-12C, which would also be available to existing customers. Output has been bumped up to 616 hp thanks to remapped engine ECU, while a programmable engine note, remote-controlled opening passenger door, and improved Meridian sound system account for the other upgrades. McLaren emphasizes nothing was sacrificed for the extra power — the 12C’s CO2 emissions and fuel efficiency numbers are unchanged, so the 3100-pound beast will still achieve 15/22 mpg city/highway.

McLaren has made clear the importance of keeping its customers happy in the interests of keeping up with rival Ferrari. Following customer feedback, McLaren improved the MP4-12C with lighter shift paddles, better steering feel, and a more audible engine note. The software was even improved to remove bugs such as overly sensitive warning lights.

When we interviewed Sheriff earlier this year, he had this to say about the ongoing development of the car: “When we launched the car, some people said it would be nice to be able to open the door just by holding down the open key on the remote control, and the door would open. And we said, ‘You know what, that’s a very good idea, we should have thought of that.’ So we’ve programmed that, but it’s retrofittable”

The free power package will be available to existing customers starting in October 2012.

McLaren’s mid-engined MP4-12C sports car just went on sale this past year, but several updates are headed its way for 2013. We don’t have too many complaints about the MP4-12C in its current form—we gave it the nod in a comparison test against the Ferrari 458 Italia and Porsche 911 GT2 RS—but McLaren apparently felt it necessary to tweak the car and give it a power bump for 2013.
The most significant update, at least to us, is an additional 25 hp for the MP4-12C’s twin-turbocharged, 3.8-liter V-8. The power increase will come by way of an engine-computer update, bringing the power total to 618 hp. McLaren also is modifying the car’s transmission programming and adding software to allow drivers to alter the level of engine noise entering the cabin. The current MP4-12C has a valved sound tube that pipes intake noise into the cabin at different levels, depending on which driving mode is selected. Now, McLaren owners will be able to adjust the valve independently of the driving mode. Full loud? Yes, please.

Among the less sexy—but still useful—updates is the addition of Bluetooth and navigation functionality for the MP4-12C’s touch-screen–based infotainment system. (The 2012 car had the hardware to support both nav and Bluetooth, but the software wasn’t ready until now.) McLaren also is adding an optional suspension lift mode, which can raise both the front and rear of the car at low speeds. This should prove useful to customers who occasionally are confronted by a steep driveway or rough road. Finally, the MP4-12C’s radio antenna was tweaked for enhanced reception.

The best part is that, aside from the upcoming model’s optional suspension lift functionality, McLaren will retrofit all of these upgrades to current customers’ cars at no charge. This is especially remarkable in light of the price increase that will be levied upon the 2013 MP4-12C. (McLaren will announce more specific pricing information later.) The new 2013 model goes on sale in September, and McLaren will begin retrofitting existing cars with the upgrades in October.

Wrong-O.

It means you're firmly in the factory 600-HP club.

Great news - other companies would have added an "S" to the badge and charged 50K for it.

The car is pretty incredible. I got a ride in one a few months ago, and it's pretty darn quick. The stopping capabilities are VERY sweet as well. And I wouldn't have believed it, but it would be a decent daily driver save getting in and out. Very comfortable ride when in regular mode.

I just purchased more exhaust pieces for my car, and I'm above the MP4-12C power levels. 24bhp is a significant gain.

This.
It really makes McLaren look better than all others when considering the after-purchase support.

I should amend that post. I just got a ride in it. OMFG..1st and 2nd gear wot was like nothing I've ever experienced in an automobile. It accelerated as fast or slightly quicker than my bikes and one of my bikes is very tricked out and makes 170 RWHP. The driver waited until the last second for a turn and I though we were goners, full stop, right. The brakes on that car are just as incredible as the acceleration, from 100 to nothing in a blink. I was blown away and sad I will never be able to afford something like that. It was f'ing fast as ****.

Anyone else notice the front left side wheel stop spinning while the car is still moving at the end? Or what looks like pieces of engine coming out the exhaust?
