I'm so jelly of you guys with wide setups.

I'm looking at doing a 17x9 + 30 w/ 225/45/17 tires on my STI. I'm putting on coils before hand, but is this an easier size to fit or am I looking for trouble?

Ur gonna need to roll your fenders and quarter panels, that should be the only trouble, which everybody has to do.. I got 18x8.75 +35 225/45 on my bugeye on coils

Yeah, rolling all 4 shouldn't be bad. IAG wanted like $450 though

I'd much rather get a wheel with a higher offset (closer to 40), but I'm not so lucky.

I really just want 17x9 XXR 522s...if only.

$450 to roll.

You can't just roll STI rear fenders. You have to grind them and refinish them to avoid rust.

Ummmmm i beg to differ. When done right u can roll them with a roller just fine.

Myself and plenty other of my sti friends have had them done and no rust.

I've seen too many people pop the fender molding off.

I've gotten quotes from other shops, but I can't attest to their quality. Cheapest quote was $200 so far.

Pffff you can fit the 522's without fender rolling. They are a high enough offset you'll be fine.
If you're on coilovers all you'll need is some proper camber for clearance.
A 40 Sidewall would make things easier however for 17s, 45 series will look better.

Yup, I'll be putting coils on next week. It should be alright with a +42 offset if i don't go too low.

I'll roll/pull and go lower in a month or so.

I'm probably going with 235/45 tires.

To those bitching on the STi fenders, take off the flare, take a roller or hammer, grind the inner spot welds down, and finish.

Problem solved

That's definitely a thought.

It took me long enough to find the perfect STI for me, I'm very cautious with permanent changes I make to the car

Its good though however to work with someone who's done fenders or specifically STi rears. But if you take your take with the hammer or roller you'll do some good work. Who cares if it looks like ass under there so long as the flare covers it and it doesn't rust

Yeah, this is true. I'm still looking around for some other shops closer to me. 3hrs away is the closest I've found other than IAG

Yeah, pretty ****ty.

Hopefully I bump into someone nearby with some experience. I'd love to go with either a meaty setup or real low on 17x9 wheels.

You guys are insane. I have a Eastwood fender roller I rent out for $30 a day with a heatgun included. Only problem is I don't know if you're in my area. I'm located in Portland, OR - Vancouver, WA.

I'm sure you can find a guy on Craigslist or on the east coast forum section that will rent out his fender roller to you for $30-50 a day.
