News AKIC:Motorcycles:2013

They are coming. SOON. To a screen near you. The toughest race series of any kind on the planet. Some of the most physically fit men on the planet, doing battle over 17 rounds across the United States and Canada.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=Oa0yIzq-0oQ

Join me in rooting for Alaskan Ben Lamay. He finished top 20 last year and has had his best off season ever. Looking for big things from my wife's nephew this year. He will be on the River Rock Yamaha. National #57.

News

I know it is very early for next year's riding season but I wanted to post this up for those within AKIC who are into riding motorcycles.

My friend W.M. Lewis has started a riding group in a site called Meet Up. Here is the link.
http://www.meetup.com/Alaska-Motorcycle-Riders/

Many here have already ridden with me and W.M. on several different trips. He is also an accomplished rider and a past president of the Alaska Gold Wing Riders Association. We've toured together extensively. He is forming this group site merely as a way for Alaska riders to hook up and ride to destinations. There is no membership or fees. It is simply a way to help us organize rides.

Past association with the Last Frontier Motorcycle group resulted in distaste one too many times with people simply riding to a place to eat and sitting down at buffets. The focus was the meal, not the ride.

Anyways, if you take a moment to enter your information, it will allow us to send out emails for group rides. You don't have to feel obligated to go on each and every ride, you don't even have to ride out on the first leg of the trip. You can feel free to simply meet at the destination and enjoy the return leg. People can go at their own pace, we take riders of all abilities…it is just an organizational tool. If you choose not to wear a helmet on your own bike, that is ok, just make sure your passenger has one on to be legal. All machine makes and rider ability levels are welcome.

We have scheduled a meeting in mid February to get some face time with each other and brainstorm some destination rides for the actual riding season. Hope to see you out.

Sure you've already seen this from years ago BJ, but I'm certain some of the youngsters haven't.

This is part of the dragon! And yes, he is on a 900 lb Gold Wing!

^^^ That guy is on the GW forum I frequent. He's a long-haul trucker in that region.

I guess you can say he's ridden the Dragon as few times...

Yellow_wolf
The 24 hrs of Deal's Gap
1001.7 miles
23 hrs and 52 min
29,786 turns
avg. 19 mpg

His ride...

There's something to be said for a 900lb sport bike.

Tonight, the very best Supercross racers in the world will take to the track in Anaheim, California to begin the 17 round AMA supercross series.

F1, WRC, Moto GP and World Superbike wish their racing was this exciting. Nascar is a joke in comparison.

These guys are physically fit to olympic standards. Their machines have HP to weight ratios of top fuel drag cars. These machines become an extension of their bodies. They fly 35 feet up in the air over 75 feet of distance literally inches from their competitors and they do it lap after lap.

There is nothing like the spectacle of this type of racing. I encourage those who haven't seen it before to watch tonights 450 final live on Speed TV. You won't be disappointed and will hopefully become a fan from a single viewing.

I've been following the sport since the late 70's. I've never seen a field as deep, talented or motivated as I am seeing this season shaping up to be. Some of the big players from the five brands.

Our extended family member, Alaska's own Ben Lamay, national number 57 (this year) will be out there attempting to qualify for the event today. He has more support this year than any other in the past.

Sweet, Thanks for the link Taylor.

Ben was fastest in his practice group.

Cody Woodworth #689, also from Alaska, was 6th fastest in his 250F qualifying group.

I highly recommend the ABATE course it's kinda pricey but well worth it if you pass. Get a hold of me if you need the study guide. Oh yea Honda has the new cbr250/500 for 2013 check them out.

If you are a true motor head this should peak your interest. If you are a motorcyclist or aspire to be, it is riveting. The stuff of legend. I count myself as a fortunate man to have seen this machine running on the banks of Daytona. I saw it years later at the Guggenheim exhibit in Las Vegas. I hope you enjoy.
