Loooky look what we got today from Cusco for our 2011 STi!
Should be a good way to get some more rigidity out of the chassis and match the other Cusco bracing, control arms, lateral links and sway bars that are already on the car. Hoping if time allows that I will be able to drive the car for a few min after each part gets installed for some good feedback. Putting this stuff on tomorrow first thing in the AM ![]() Can anyone guess the items? ![]() ![]() Here is a hint ![]() http://www.rallysportdirect.com/cata...2&src=p7gy3cop Kirill RallySportDirect.com Last edited by RallySport Direct; 12-13-2012 at 08:46 PM. |

Got a chance to take the car for a spin, and what a difference!
Turn in is crazy sharp, and the front end is now very stable. Turn the wheel and the car just goes. The back is very eager to follow and the car seems to be more planted and much more predictable. Its a bit cold out today (low 40's at best), so the tires did not offer much grip to say the least. Around one of the corners the back end stepped out, so I shut it down of any farther testing until the weather warms up. Should have pictures posted up shortly of a couple of the braces. First of, I would like to apologize as for the time being for the lack of images of some of the items. We are in the process of getting the lift put up and it did not get here in time for when these items got installed. So some of the under car bracing images will be posted as soon as the lift goes up.
First off we have the Cusco Front Cross Member Power Brace 692 492 M. We installed this in conjunction with Cusco Front Lower Arm Bar Type II 692 477 A. Install was straight forward and didnt require any specialty tools. One thing I noticed was that this brace is BEEEEEFY! About 2 times heavier then the dinky stock unit. Overall driving impression was that the front end of the car was way more stable. Turn in was smoother and more planted, and the car did seem to give a little more feedback through the front end as well. Which is always nice to know what the car is doing. ![]() Next we added the Cusco Rear Strut bar 692 541 A with the brand new Cusco Quick release latches 00B 540 C. I must say that the latches are freaking slick! No more having to worry about messing up the bars finish if you have to throw stuff in the trunk, and the anodized aluminum caps look amazing! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Next is Cusco Front Member Brace 692 492 FM. This ties into the upper and lower radiator support, and sits right behind the OEM crash beam. The brace has even a little bracket to re-locate the temp sensor! ![]() We also installed the Cusco Rear Member Power Brace 692 492 RM, Cusco Power Center Floor Brace 692 492 C, Cusco Rear Member Side Brace 687 492 RS. Promise as soon as our lift is up we will get more images of these individual braces ![]() Very glad to have a chance to work with Cusco on this project and try out many of the braces to get some real life feedback. Now only if the weather will warm up! Kirill RallySportDirect.com Last edited by RallySport Direct; 12-18-2012 at 05:16 PM. |

People had some more questions about this brace.
So here are some "better" pictures to show the fitment of the front member brace This is the mount before I put on the crash beam. (The hardware was not tight, so dont pay attention to the holes not being 100% straight for the bolts behind the crash beam) ![]() And as you can see this thing sits quite flush ![]() ![]() Kirill RallySportDirect.com |

That is what the reason for the images.
Thing that is a bit of a issue with FMIC's is they replace crash beams, which 1) reduces chassis stiffness 2) Gets rid of a crash beam, and makes it so the car is more likely to sustain frame damage in a low speed accident. Kirill RallySportDirect.com |

When is the Cusco quick release latches 00B 540 C going to be available for purchase? |

I'd suggest matching to the roof spoiler and other parts (like mirrors and whatnot), then keeping them all carbon.
Good luck with the choice. ![]() |

Is it functional or just bling? If the later, leave it off: if the former, leave it as is. :-)

Its 100% function. Looks wise I am not in love with it, but the increase in rear wing downforce generation is substantial enough that I am wanting to do this for 100% functional aspect.

We do not have any exact numbers for this as it requires a full scale wind tunnel which simply is not an option for us to have access to for testing something like this.
The theory behind this product has been proven by large automakers along with many universities and government programs. The vortex generator induces the air flow to turn from laminar to turbulent as soon as the flow contacts it. This turbulent flow sucks the air flow to the rear window, and reduces the separation wake which allows the flow to follow the contour of the rear window and the trunk. This flow is now attached to the window and trunk, which proceed to flow under the airfoil. The higher the mass flow of air on the underside of the airfoil the more downforce it generates as a result from the pressure gradiant difference from the top and bottom air flow difference. You do have a slight increase in drag which is generated from the air flow being turbulent vs laminar, however by inducing additional flow under the wing you are increasing the efficiency of the wing with very minimal increase in drag. Fair enough. It just sounded as though you had some measurable change.
