Default Check engine light on & cruise light flashing

I have a 06 WRX w/no mods, and today I got gas and about 10-15 min later my check engine light and my cruise control light came on simultaneously. The cruise light is flashing which is indicating the cruise control is deactivated according to the owners manual. As far as the check engine light goes it says in the manual that an emissions control issue has been detected BUT, also says if you have recently fueled up to make sure the gas cap is tight, which I have done. Drove the car more and the lights did not reset so I disconnected the battery to clear the computer. Drove the car for better than an hour, it runs just fine but the lights just came back on, PLEASE HELP !!! Thanks for any advice.

I think a CEL and flashing cruise means your car is in limp mode (someone confirm this), basically a failsafe fallback the ecu has when it thinks something has gone wrong that could damage the motor, it will limit revs and boost.
First don't disconnect the battery to clear the code, this only makes the warning go away it doesn't make the problem that is causing it go away. This is kinda like taking the batteries out of our smoke detectors in your house when they go off instead of putting out the fire.
Get a code reader, AP, tactrix and laptop or take it to a shop and have them read the code, then come make here with that info and we can help you better.
Good luck.

Thanks, I do know that it only clears the code. I thought from reading the owners manual about the gas cap possibly not being closed tightly, that that's what the issue was related to since it was right after I got gas and the car is still running fine as far as I can tell. I'll have to get in and have the codes pulled I guess. Hope it's not serious, especially right now at Christmas. :/

Just go to an Autozone/Advance Auto/Napa and get the codes pulled. I'm sure Uncle Scotty or someone else will tell you the same thing. There's not much we can do to help unless you know what the codes mean.

Alright, thanks. I was hoping someone had cone across this before. But yeah, I'll head to Autozone or NAPA and see what they come up with. Thanks again and Happy Holidays

In my 2012, those lights get triggered for a misfire, and don't go away until they are manually cleared. I would also recommend that you go somewhere to have them pull the codes and google what they mean.

You should try fixing the cause of the misfire. The CEL comes on for a reason.

OP when your CEL comes on we need to get the code (s) to help you. The list of codes that can be generated by a CEL are many and can mean different things. Being it was right after getting gas, it's likely a loose fuel cap.

For reference the cruise control is deactivated with a CEL to prevent damage to the vehicle.

How can I go about finding the coil pack where all 4 coils lead 2 maybe there's a issue there but I have no clue of where its located and what's needed to uncover it because I doubt it's exposed

Something tells me you're better off taking it to a mechanic, you may be in over your head if you try to fix it yourself.

Yeah and there was something about a blocked oil passage, low/dirty oil, timing belt mis alignment and something else I don't remember. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have to do with the timing belt as it runs just fine and doesn't seem to have lost any power. Oil level is a bit low, prob less than 1qt, but it is a bit dirty as I drive it like I stole it except for in Portland city traffic. So I think I'll start with a oil change since that's the easiest and cheapest way to start figuring it out.

Excuse me if I'm wrong but I honestly could just take an extra 20 min to find it just thought there would b someone on here with experience !!!!!that doesn't say take it to a mechanic over a coil pack lol wow smh......

Ha thanks - I should have completed the story. I took it to the dealer and there was an ECM flash that had been made available to fix the misfire issue.
