A new S2000 would be interesting to see. I doubt it would be a "S2000" but a successor --maybe S3000 with 3.0 v6 or maybe S1600 with a 1.6 turbo

I have no faith that Honda will do the S2000 any justice with a successor considering how they can't even get the Civic right anymore. When will Honda learn that Toyota has and will always corner the bland, vanilla commuter car market? Time for Honda to get it's identity back.

FYI: When they dropped the 2.2L in the AP2, they didn't call it an S2200.

While the extra torque was nice, I really miss that 8900 rpm redline. There was just something so psychologically satisfying about being able to almost hit 9K rpms in a such a well engineered Honda engine (It's still one of the best production engine heads to date, not to mention N/A power/liter was astundingly high as well).

The madness of being able to kiss 9K rpms in a street car, reliably.

8500 RPM redline? Might be a new engine, but still nice to see that Honda's not done with high revving motors.

True, but the 2.2 liter was a stroked 2.0 in a pretty much same platform. I believe an all new generation calls for a new name.

looking at history S600, S800, S2000. Maybe 3.0 V6 is too large, but instead S2500 with a small high reving 2.5 inline 6 would be nice.

I think car companies want a piece of the FRS/BRZ and the only companies that can do that would be Honda and Nissan.

it's easy, the only thing the FRS/BRZ ara lacking is balls which honda can get out off from and engine the same size as the one on the FRS.

I believe it held the NA specific output/liter record until the 458 Italia came out.

I HIGHLY doubt any kind of S2000 successor would have more than 4 cylinders in this climate (both economic and environmental over-regulation).

While the F-series is really great, those who've tweaked both think the K-series has more potential. A performance version of the Accord's new DI K-series would be really good, as long as they forsake the exhaust manifold integrated into the head.

I'm disappointed they're showing a warmed over AP2 S2K rather than giving us a prototype version of the concept they floated a while back for a mid-engine S2K.

I don't think that a car that costs over $200k and holds that record is anything special, Honda achieving that with a $30k car is highly impressive, so my props to Honda.

That's a shot of an AP2. There's nothing different in that you can't already get.

My '00 AP1 needs engine work for a random misfire. Becoming REALLY common, and the code is so damn generic it's stumping a LOT of people. I haven't driven it in a year... mostly because it's (probably) going to be thousands to repair, head work, etc... on a head that has 189k miles.

I've traced down lots of things, but it stems from low compression in Cyl2. No leakdown test yet to determine where, because I don't have the tools to do so. I want to bring it to a decent, reputable shop and say "make it pass OBD insepection".

That shot is from the concept car in the link the OP posted. Neither the AP1 or AP2 have an 8500 RPM redline.

A $35K car and very impressive. Just saying that the S2K held that record for something like a decade. That F20C is a stout little engine.

Gah, don't even get me started on completely emissions compliant and efficient cars throwing a random code not being able to be registered because "OBD2 not ready". Such an absolute ass raping with nothing we can do about it. Good for everyone who cheats on their taxes. What were we talking about again?

I think it would make more sense since the F20/F22 were not economical nor very environmentally friendly. A small high reving 2.5 liter DI inline 6 would give it great torque and power easier and cheaper than developing the max out of a four cylinder.

Would be nice to see a bigger 4cyl with DI and longer gears. Ofcourse that means losing the high revving engines but it would bring better fuel economy and gobs ton more torque.

Yeah the 01+ S2k's have a leather wrapped center console. The combination of a 8.5k redline and a carpeted console makes it different from any production model that I've seen.

Edit: upon closer inspection the redline is definitely higher than 8.5k in that pic.

Did anyone actually click the link. It says it is a Honda S2000 with "Modulo Climax" interior and exterior -- some sort of aftermarket accessorized discontinued model S2000. And not a future model.
