Will i need to tune my car?!

hey. i will be putting on a fmic on my 02 wrx and i was wondering if im going to retune it for sure? it has been tuned once before when the cold air intake and turboback was installed. im new to modding subarus so im in need of some help. i do have a cobb access port. thanks you very much

Going with a FMIC will typically require a re-tune. Even if it runs OK on the existing map (which you would have to verify via data logging - especially look at boost control at WOT), you will not take full advantage of the benefits of an FMIC without a re-tune.

Alright thanks. i have never tuned a car my self. Do you think i will be able to do it my self? or am i better off getting someone else to do it?

Being that you've never done it, I wouldn't expect good results on your first time being fmic tuning.
You should keep your current tune on file, get it tuned and compare. Use it to learn off of instead.

Learning to tune is certainly possible, but it takes a lot of time, patience, reading, and data logging. You must understand how the ECU logic works, how the tables interact, how changes can impact the entire system, etc. It could take months to just get to the point where you can confidently start to make any changes, even minor ones. If that is not something you wish to do, then I highly suggest that you take the car to a professional.
