Default Switching from an OS tune

I hate to sound like a n00b, but I'd rather that than try to do something when i don't know what i'm doing.

For the sake of knowing what I have:
2006 wrx TR
vf48
modded stock injectors
GS 3 port ebs
divorced DP with cat
Custom CAI
Bigger TMIC (probably eBay, but it was on the car when I got it and haven't had problems yet)

I think thats all that pertains to this.

I am having some issues with my Wrx lately. I am wondering about switching back to an AP. I had one when I first bought the car, but sold it when I got tuned for the vf48. I thought I'd never use the features on it. But now that I'm learning more and would like to rely less on shops (since I live in the middle of nowhere), I'm thinking I'd like the easy of an AP. And for the money it doesn't seem like a bad idea. I see it as Tactrix cable = 150 and netbook = 150. AP = 400 used. I would like to be able to learn how to log my stuff and review it to fix problems if something is arising. But I see RomRaider as a bit out of my league if i'm honest with myself. IMO Cobb is to the tuning world what Apple is to the computer world. And now with Accesflash, I'm leaning that route. Plus LC would be fun no that I'm living in an area with a lot more long lonely dirt roads.

What are your opinions? I'm searching, and I understand that it isn't just copy and paste with the maps. So understand I will have to get with a tuner to figure out a way to get my car setup.

(i can describe my issues if anyone really cares)

Thanks for the help,
Steve

Hi Steve. Your modifications would require a custom tune as our off-the-shelf (OTS) maps will not be compatible with your mods. The following link contains a listing of tuners that tune for the AccessPORT. This could be a shop that does custom dyno tunes or a tuner that does e-tunes (i.e. remotely tunes your car via data logs via email):
http://www.cobbtuning.com/Dealer-Ret...or-s/70471.htm

We offer free AccessTUNER Race tuning software with purchase of the version 2 AccessPORT (i.e. current version with color screen). Learning to tune takes a lot of patience and time, however. I would suggest with your mods that you get a good base map from a professional to start from first rather than attempting to tune that combo from scratch if you are a novice and that is something you want to do. If you do get a tune that you wish to tweak, make sure you discuss this with your tuner beforehand - they will need to save the map in Race format in order for you to edit it, which some tuners will not be willing to do. Regardless of the map, you can still at least data log with the AccessPORT regardless. Details on how to get the free AccessTUNER Race software below:
http://www.cobbtuning.com/accesstune...st-s/70716.htm

AccessFLASH is a custom tune through one of our three Cobb retail facilities (In Texas, Oregon, or California) that does not require an AccessPORT.

Ok, I understand that I will need a custom map. But is there anyway for the tuner to be able to do a "copy and paste" of some sort. The reading I've done so far says that it can be done, Its just not a matter of a few minutes. With that being said, I really have no reason to re-tune the car, so if its not feasible for them to do that, I may just have to stick with OS.

If the tuner is very familiar with both the OS tuning software (Romraider/Ecuflash) and the Cobb AccessTUNER software, then that is certainly possible. There are some differences in how data is presented, tables are named, etc. between the two sets of software, so you have to understand what you are looking at it to transfer a tune.

Make sure it is a version 2 AccessPORT (i.e. current version with color screen) - the version 1 AccessPORT (black brick-shaped device) has been discontinued for some time now and only the version 2 is supported by the latest tuning software.

Oh yeah, I actually try to research and look stuff up before I ask something. And I had an AP when I got the car, but sold it before accessflash and the LC / FFS. I never thought I'd use it other than a gauge, and its an expensive gauge. But now I'm wiser to the benefits. Hindsight. -_-
