Sounds like it. Doing the valve covers now as well? Seems like they should be pretty accessible at this point.

Merry Christmas everyone. Had one fun Christmas eve! Ran into a group of 2 Subarus and an SRT4 right after this.

I guess I'm half way done but it's time to put the engine back in the car... MY trans came off the cross member so I need to try and wrestle that back in place before I can put the engine back in.

I have a buddy coming around 3 to help, but I may put out an APB for some help so keep posted if you want to work!

Hey guys, so I have been reading up on downpipes and have been trying to figure out catless vs catted. Some say go catless some say don't because of boost creep in the 2.5L and that it can only by mechanically fixed by changing the waste gate. I would rather go catless because it is cheaper and it just sounds cool!

So what is everyones opinion on this issue?

If I lived in MI when I did my dp I would have gone catless, but I lived in Utah and the air quality was bad enough. Catless is cheaper and will net a few exta ponies and quicker spool.

Catless unless you need to meet emissions, which we don't in MI

Was on late last night and was tired so didn't give much of a reason why hah.

Basically i'd go catless because you'll have lower EGTs, less backpressure and less weight (albeit like 8 lbs, but whatever.. it all ads up). Because of this you will be able to spool quicker (more flow = faster spool), and eventually be able to tune better (lower EGTs and such).

I've heard people say that a bigger downpipe (like 3in up from 2.5in) will cause an increase in boost, but that literally makes no sense to me as a stock wastegate is pressure controlled by the spring anyways.

To sum it up: from the turbo back, bigger and less impedance is better

$300? It would be worth it's weight in scrap, and all the bits and bobs you could sell off it if it was in fact bad. I don't see how it could go wrong!

Heck, if it ends up being a lump of crap, I'd consider buy it off you for tearing down out of pure curiosity. I've never had an engine that far apart. Keep in mind the prices for clean scrap aluminum. I'd wager that you could get at least $100 for the whole thing in scrap alone, but I could be crazy.
